Aviation museums

Go to where it all began! You get a good taste in the National Air and Space Museum in DC but I just had to go to say I've been to Kittyhawk.

Lot of history in this area, The Outer Banks. Very beautiful beaches and coastline. The driving is superb.

Yes - I wanted to go there but ran out of time and money...
Have done some South Carolina but veered onto the Blue Ridge Parkway so not much of North Carolina....
Next Trip maybe.

B52 in the centre of the hanger with everything else around it
The B52s and their refueller aircraft KC135s (I think) were regular visitors to Darwin in the mid 1980s, hence a B52 was donated to the museum. Also of interest was a 75 squadron Mirage fighter that was recovered many years later after flaming out circa 1985, just prior to FA18s came to Darwin

Not sure if this has been mentioned previously, but there is a nice little historical airpark at TRG (Tauranga airport) NZ (was there last week). Some of the exhibits also fly around the airport. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Beijing's aviation museum is unbelievably huge, with hundreds of planes both outside and in a cavernous hangar.

You can board Chairman Mao's private aircraft (attaching my own photos).
