Qantas reawarded me WP status overnight 90 status credits short of the target... Now I'm not complaining or anything but the goal this year was PG again for Mrs! but my last long haul MEL/TPE in J was on Singapore, so I might have screwed that one up .

I was wondering if the booked flights I have presently (2x MEL/PER Y, 1 x MEL/AKL J and some shorties, MEL/SYD) prompted them to re-award WP status or if it is some default computer setting...

QF done this to anyone else?

Mr!

Yep, look like they've addressed the end of October members. This normally happens around 8 weeks before your "year" ends.

My reassessment date has changed to 31st Oct 2009 as well; although I've had enough SC's to re qualify WP since Mid November last year.

I wish that they had the same attitude to lowly bronze, as Mrs trimmer is 10sc,s away from silver needed by end of oct 2008,I contacted the QFF centre & was told to (take a flight) if she wanted to achieve silver as they do not make any exceptions even though she has other flights soon after October.Congrats on your luck.

Anecdotal evidence indicates that while Qantas may often 'comp' a member's status requalification for a level they rarely, if ever, 'comp' a member to a higher status.

In Mrs trimmer's situation; if she takes the flight she will qualify. Next year, if she is 10 SC's short with two months to go she would quite likely be 'comped'.

In summary, Qantas will generally make their members earn status by the book, but are more lenient in regard to retaining status.

I'd agree with both of serfty's comments on both the questions posed.

v8Stateman, perhaps the computer saw yours, created an exception report and sent it to be looked at my a real person ;).

Maybe you'd had a few good years recently so the special status fairy computer thought you looked likely to make it up to the retain level?!

LOL, I have enough bookings to have made the points by next week - I think that the status fairy just looks at booked and paid fares and realises its a no-brainer :)

By the way, if no-one's said it yet, Welcome to FF!!

Mr!

Mr!

Thanks for the welcome. Have actually been "lurking" here for years but thought I'd finally register so I can put my 2 cents worth in now and then. Have learned a lot from reading here. I'm just a bit of a travel junkie who doesn't actually get to travel nearly as much as most here. Sad but true! (Love flying... probably 'cause I don't do it very often). Get my travel fixes vicariously through friends and on-line sites such as this!

I remember a few of discussions on AFF about comping and also my own experience. One of the theories was once you had achieved a certain status, QF would average your SC's over the next few years and as long as your average was still above qualification level, they would comp you. This happened to me a couple of times. The first year I achieved WP, I had about 1800 SC's the next 2 years I was close but didn't quite make it yet I was comped.:)
Just another possibility...

Yes, it certainly happened to me in my third year of Platinum (a couple of years ago) and I know of others that have had the same averaging provision apply. Didn't think they were keeping with the new "hard line approach" but if it is still being used, then that makes commercial commonsense.

Is it a 3 yr average of 1,400 or 1,200? My 3 year average is 1,258SC (Monster first year) I have not been comped for a 3rd year....yet :)

Personally, I think the average is just a theory, and I am not sure that anyone has conclusively proven it!
