Is it a 3 yr average of 1,400 or 1,200? My 3 year average is 1,258SC (Monster first year) I have not been comped for a 3rd year....yet :)

Don't know whether I know how to say it correctly mathematically , however for the renewal years (Year 2 of continuous Platinum membership onwards), I think it should be an average of:

SC's earned [Year(s) n] ... / (1,400) + (1,200 x y)

where n = SC's earned in attainment year {and subsequent years}
and y = number of years of renewal membership

I think that makes sense ...can somebody see where I am going?? (or am I the only one) :p

I'm sure that somebody with better mathematical skills will advise...

I think I know what you mean ...

Maybe better written as:
Code:
IF ([u]SC's earned [Year(s) n][/u]) ≥  1 THEN {requal WP}
     (1,400 + (1,200 x y) )

I was thinking about volunteering to do a test, but I think I'd need about -2000 SC's in my next "year" to get the quotient back down to somewhere around 1.

I was thinking about volunteering to do a test, but I think I'd need -ve SC's in my next "year" to get the average back down by October 2009.

Following the equation, I come out at 1.01 (SUM of 3yr status/3800). I should be comped another year. But I have not yet been.

Personally, I think the average is just a theory, and I am not sure that anyone has conclusively proven it!

I agree. After my first year as Plat (approx 1450 SC's) I was many hundred short for renewal but was comped. Next year was the same situation but was comped once more. 4th year I busted 1,200 SC's.

Yes - agree with that.
Of course the other theory is that it is not an average but a running total is kept. Each year 1200 is deducted from your running total and if you still have > 1 SC left, then you get comped. Once again, this is all theory. One of the years I was comped I had around 960 SC's.. The other year I was pretty close at around 1140. Who knows:confused:

Agree. I think SCs averaging is a myth....

Actually, I have to agree, this YTD earn is my lowest in many years at the same point in time, therefore, on that basis, QF would have comp'd me at <1000 SC.

I think it was just luck

:o

Mr!

Maybe not a myth - perhaps it was de rigor a few years ago, perhaps not.

In any case it's a reasonable guide. Maybe 'tis partly revenue based (Lindsay does travel on Flex fares alot).

Personally; it's far easier in contemplation to simply garner those 1200 SC annually ...

FWIW, I was comped SG in 2002 & 2003.

Totally agree. If you want to keep Platinum then make sure you do the necessary flying to qualify and not rely on being comped status.

I think most people see it as a bonus when it happens. When you are expecting to get downgraded and then you get comped another year, it is good.

I'm sure that QF do it on a whim just so they can see our discussions on Boards like this and have a laugh about how we are attempting to work out a method when there probably isn't one - I can see their smirks from here.

serfty, whilst that is true (I fly domesically K or higher - international has been rare in past couple of years but have had a couple of paid J's or discount Y's to SWP), I was only ever comped once in my 4 years of Pat re-qualification....

I'll have to dig my numbers out and have a look...how one forgets quickly.

Qantas reawarded me WP status overnight 90 status credits short of the target... Now I'm not complaining or anything but the goal this year was PG again for Mrs! but my last long haul MEL/TPE in J was on Singapore, so I might have screwed that one up .

I was wondering if the booked flights I have presently (2x MEL/PER Y, 1 x MEL/AKL J and some shorties, MEL/SYD) prompted them to re-award WP status or if it is some default computer setting...

QF done this to anyone else?

I got comped to retain gold (due to expire end-Oct) after only earning 345 status credits in 12 months, and no current travel plans with Qantas :D

I think there is some method to it, but I doubt that we'd ever figure it out with the information that we have.

Agreed.
I don't think people rely on getting compd, they are just happily suprised when it happens. I do agree that to gain the higher status levels you just need to fly the required amount, pretty simple.

Average earn is a myth.
I have been platinum for 4 years.
Last year I earned 1900 SC.
This year I am 25 SC short (thats right I have earned 1175) and I just got the email requesting I justify my travel and then they 'might' comp me.
I need the extra 25 SC by end of March which will not be an issue, but it proves that they are NOT averaging SC over years. (IMHO)

And I was recently dumped from gold down to silver for being 90 S/C's short ,and I didn't receive any warning ,and I have 7 flights in the system to be flown between Apr and November.

Now that's an interesting point. The online statements go back for 12 months. How do you dig your numbers out? Have you kept a record? I had not thought to do that.
