Having flown in the refurbished plane this past week I would strongly advise avoiding rows 8 & 9 in business until such time as they've fitted a curtain to screen off the bar. The light coming off the bar is extremely bright if you're trying to sleep.

CJMNMAC yes I think you are correct, so that leaves me with my next question:

If VPF is being refitted now, does that mean BNE-LAX/LAX-BNE will be daily before SYD-LAX/LAX-SYD?

Also, I noticed last month that SYD-LAX/LAX-SYD flights were even days, now they are odd. Is this because of the 31st May? I'm calculating that if all goes according to plan, then our SYD-LAX return flights on August 11 and 21 respectively, will be "The Business".

Can anyone advise what is the other Sydney plane rego, so I can add it to my Flight Aware app. Many thanks....

How did this get through? Was it not considered? How hard is it to install a curtain. Seems very poorly thought out

Bugger, just recalculated. If the current schedule of alternate days still exists in August, then The Business will fly on even days and our 11th and 21st flights will be old seats........

I think if the current schedule continues without further delays, the aircraft on route SYD or BNE - LAX probably will all be refitted.

You cannot guarantee anything, but I think if you were to check again in another 5 - 6 weeks I think a better idea of what is happening will be clear.

I would not get too hung up on trying to guess odd days or even days at this point

Good advice and it shall be taken. I should be focusing on an exciting 20th Anniversary Holiday :)

Have any AFF members posted actual TRs re new product? What are general impressions to date of those who have experienced new cabin?

I flew it both ways late last month. It is a really excellent product. The hard product is superior to Qantas Skybed II by a long long way and the soft product is far superior to DL and American, so its definitely the way to go. The seat is very comfortable and spacious - only negative is the previously referenced table not fully retracting, potentially resulting in some knee hits depending on how you sleep. Its very private and functional. The bar is also an excellent space and the service I had both ways was very good and right up there.

The ground experience and connections at LAX are probably not as smooth as QF/AA so that would be one downside if you are flying on - having said that it was fine and good enough and worth it for the private seat on the main flight.

I was booked on VA30 from AUH-SYD on November 9 which was showing as a refurbished 777.

I've just been advised that this flight will not be operating and I've been re-booked on a EY flight. The reason I was told was that there was maintenance/refurbishment taking place. Anyone have any further info, doesn't look like VA29/VA30 are being operated after the first week of November.

My guess is that VA has no intention of returning to the SYD-AUH route.

AUH will recommence from about mid August and then pause again for a few weeks in November due to some scheduled maintenance.

With what from mid-August though, do you know? Re-furbed 777s? I'm planning on a SYD-AUH late August and probably can't do more than PE. Also for anyone who has booked PE and gets shunted to EY, that's going to be a problem surely...?

Yes it would be if you get put on the EY flight that's taking over.

I'm doing SYD-AUH on October 22 and it's still VA29. If you haven't booked yet I would take a close look at your dates to check that VA29 is still being operated.
