The Nespresso Coffee machines, do they make hot chocolates?

And many thanks for your report - looking forward to the pics! (usually I dump photos in a photobucket account and copy the IMG link here).

I was thinking row 8 would be the worse of the lot - I didn't like the old row 5 as it was too close to the bar.

I don't know if the Nespresso machines make hot chocolate but it is something that is offered on the beverage menu. Row 8 would be the worst seats, in my opinion.

The Mandarina Duck amenity kit and pyjamas were handed out prior to departure.

Really not the biggest deal but I was left wondering if they have been using up old stock of these recently in preparation for a new kit. On my last VA J mk1 flight I was handed a female Mandarina Duck kit. And in PE I was handed a Virgin-branded Grown Alchemist (whose products I prefer). Seemed inconsistent anyway. I think they should have come out with entirely new PJs as well, thinner more like Q perhaps and with the flying Rosie logo as well. Just a thought.

I'm not a fan of their pyjamas. They're too big/loose and too thick. Add that to the rather thick duvet with no individual air vents and it can get quite toasty!

Agree. I melt in the PJs. I usually end up changing back into shorts and a t-shirt.

I tend to wear the pants with a tank top to keep from overheating (especially combined with the lack of personal air vents on board).

Sort-of trip report continued further.... I didn't have any checked luggage so I was out of TBIT in about 15 minutes! I had a connecting flight to Atlanta on AA, so I made my way to T4.
Thanks for the report.

At LAX, how many air-bridges did they use when you disembarked?

And very nice the hot chocolate is too, we "indulged" several times on the way to/from LAX last year :)

From my research with Expert Flyer, it would seem that VA1 will be operating with the new seat layout on a daily basis as of June 3.

Just noticed that for a flight from SYD-LAX on June 7, my previously assigned seat 9A has been changed to 3A.

I called VA about this and it was explained to me that there is a fault with the curtain rod and the curtain between the bar and the seats behind the bar cannot be drawn meaning that the light will shine in on these seats affecting people trying to sleep. VA are moving affected passengers to other seats until the problem is fixed. I should be grateful for VA's proactiveness rather ending up complaining about the problem.

Over the weekend, VA has switched the seat map for my VA1 flight on 24 June to the old config. And they've split the four of us up into separate rows!

Correction:

It's either that they are wanting to send another 777 over to the States for refurbishment or the plane that is over there at the moment for refurbishment is delayed.

I just checked my VA2 flight on June 14 and it's reverted to the old configuration which I take to mean that there's definitely a delay in the return to service for the 777 now being refurbished

Yes, out another fortnight and now all reconfig every day SYD/LAX not until June 27th ...

Odd numbered June days are (currently) fine.

My flight on June 4 (on VA1) is one of the "even" unlucky ones! I'm in Premium Economy and the VA website now says "Seat request pending : 10D Standard" - anybody know what this means, aside from the obvious that it's pending  as I'd like to confirm beforehand if it may change to a non-aisle seat. And I was so looking forward to the refit!!

It's interesting they are fiddiling with seat selection.

ExpertFLyer has the seast maps.

Tears. I would be in ugly, snotty, heaving tears....

I'm disappointed but trying to keep it in perspective :). Clearly it's one of those "first-world problems". I've flown it before and, while it's not all that bad, I had switched to NZ J some time back because of the VA J hard product. But to fly over on the old J and fly back on the new J will be almost as good. The bigger issue, for me, is splitting up the family across a number of rows. But I feel fairly confident that I can get VA to fix this.

Really? they cant fix a non structural issue like a curtain rod between 26May and June7?

So it turns out that my four seats in row 4 on the new config have converted to four seats spread across three separate rows on the old config. Naively, perhaps, I thought that when I pointed out to VA that they were splitting up a family in this way, including a 4 year old, that they would just move us to the same row, or even to two rows without a row between us.

But it turns out that we can't all sit together because there are a number of VA plats in J and VA won't move them. As a former VA plat, I can understand and appreciate VA's reasons. But I still find it surprising and I know it won't be a pleasant start to our family vacation to be separated in this way as it means Marge and I will be up and down a lot to make the kids eat, switch off their screens, etc, etc. Plus there's a reasonable chance that Maggie might make it decidedly unpleasant for the poor VA plat next to her; the one who is preventing her mum or dad from sitting next to her for 14 hours. I realise we can likely switch around on board, but I don't like to leave these things to chance any more than I need to.

I'm going to have one last crack at VA tomorrow but I would have thought that they'd handle this differently.
