BA Avios subscriptions

Fair enough.

Would you recommend the Citi P card for the purposes of acquiring the points ?..

The reason why I ask is that they charge you $350 per year for the card and require you to spend $7500 in sixty days. I don't think I can spend that much.

In short, too much effort for 90k Avios points....
Fair enough. This is a thread where people are actively contemplating spending $1500 on 100k Avios or $3000 on 200k Avios. The Citi Prestige card looks a bit off a bargain alongside that.

What I mean is, BA presumably knows what a point costs them when it is redeemed. It is profitable for BA to sell points at anything above that level.

BA wants to sell for as much as people are prepared to pay, so they have tried to differentiate their offerings according to what people are willing to pay. BA charges higher prices to people who want to buy points to use right now (these customers clearly have an immediate use for them and will pay higher prices). Then BA offers points for a lower price through occasional sales or through subscriptions to tempt people who do not have an immediate use for them, basically trying to get people to make impulse purchases they would not have otherwise made.

There is no reason for BA to put the price of subscriptions up in the second year because it would probably choke off demand.
Ahhh, gotcha.

"There is no reason for BA to put the price of subscriptions up in the second year because it would probably choke off demand"...

They can however, increase the amount of Avios required for redemption. From 90k to 100k.

Inflation can be handled either by increasing the price of purchasing Avios or by increasing the cost of redemptions. Or it can be done by a combination of both. I think airlines often opt for increasing the cost of redemptions because credit cards like to offer one point per dollar of spend (or some other fixed amount) and this is not really compatible with annual price increases in line with inflation - hence better to deflate the value of the points rather than the cost. Plus it devalues people’s hoards which is a bonus for the airline. I have always thought it would be fairer if airlines inflated people’s balances when they deflated the value for redemptions. That way the inflation would only affect future purchases of points, not also erode past purchases.

you need to have at least 1 Avios in your account before you can sign up for this deal - any of the brains trust have any good ideas for immediately earning a/some point(s)?
Thanks for any help

Citi credit cards can get you Qatar Avios - then transfer them to BA.

Thanks Mr H, I was hoping to spend one (or two) pound in M&S on line or similar with my linked Avios account, but there's no where to do that (ie. link the account) --- but I will also def do what youve just suggested - seems like a win there! thanks again.

UK Uber any use?

Or e-Rewards 1200 -> 250 Avios.

Probably most hotel pts can convert to avios also.

Just an update for anyone who's remotely interested :)
I went to M&S online though BA on-line shoppiing mall, spent 1pound 60p on a mug and provided a UK address and used the 'pick up in store' option (which I didn't do). The transaction all went thorugh OK and now just waiting for the (singular) point to it my account and then onwards from there.... thanks again for your advice and responding to all. Appreaciate the help.

I hope it shows up quickly for you. Qantas points from shopping can take six months or more to appear. Maybe BA is different.
