BA Avios subscriptions

Cheers bud, but not really a lot of effort...and just wanting the point to get in on the subscription deal.
Also just offering another way if anyone else in the same boat. Hopefully not too much luck needed...

I get it .

Would it help to buy 1000 from Qatar airways and then transfer it across to BA?

Good point, interestingly I tried to do this too but you need at least 1 point in my Qatar account (also) to do that...unfort. I'm starting at base level...but we'll get there

I really don’t get that stupid rule .

People are willing to pay them each month for a subscription but they want you to have at least one point in your account .

Weirdos

I suspect it is to avoid the suggestion that revenue passengers could just buy a ticket for a lower price by doing it through Avios - they want to make sure that Avios customers have some kind of prior connection to the airline.

I agree with both of you! :)
I've got 7 figures of QFF points and have recently realised that 1. they do not care about loyalty and 2. we are "all eggs in one basket" after reading mining through a lot of posts here (great info btw)....so its time to diversify to make it work for us...

thanks again for the help both of you.

I think it’s important to remember that Qatar is under no obligation to make award availability for Qantas, despite it being a potential good PR campaign.

I’ve said it previously , Qantas threw their toys out of the pram when Qatar asked for additional landing slots . Why on earth would they value QF members when they already have existing high demand from their OWN loyalty program .??

Soon, QR will activate the visa / avios promotion and I’m certainly going to take full advantage of it .

Loyalty to an airline, ordinarily comes with perks . Unfortunately Qantas has forgotten this concept and are simply blaming QR for not allowing it’s own members to redeem on their flights .

This forum is amazing and the majority of you are awesome and knowledgeable people .

Just be careful with QR. They have locked me out of their Privilege Club for no apparent reason.

Did you receive an email explaining the suspension ?

If so, can you post it ?

No - I was not notified. I found I was unable to use my Privilege Club number to get in flight Wifi, then found when I got home that I could not log in. I get this message: "Something went wrong. Please contact your local Qatar Airways office for assistance. Visit the 'Contact us' page to find their phone number." When I call up, they tell me my account is suspended but there is no explanation. The team that is responsible will not engage with the customer facing agents. I have been told that I can't open a new account because my name, address, email, etc. is already linked to an account and I can't close my existing account because it is suspended - so net result is I am permanently locked out.

That’s not good .

Surely there is an explanation but in all fairness , this type of event does not happen often .

There may be an explanation but I have been told that I am not going to find out because the team that has suspended me has declined to communicate with the customer facing team.

I also believe it has to do with authentication purposes . It could be a matter of verifying your with a passport at their nearest office .

They don't have offices. And they haven't asked for anything. This has been going on for a few months now.

Bummer! Sorry to hear that....
It can be a bit of a cough show sometimes can't it? But I treat all of this (card churning/points collecting/redeeming for J seats) like a game, albeit somewhat serious, that I can't lose, just need better timing and more patience sometimes :) ....much better odds and payback than the Casino or the track. Investing time into it can be frustrating (as we've all agreed) but we've (partner & I) been lucky enough to have secured 2 J RTW trips in 12 months....lots of hunting and pecking on the laptop late at night in bed though....G-sus! I'm diversifying (like all) to try to make it easier in the future...

I'm thinking that the triad of Qantas, Avios and Singapore should be a good cover for most bases....what do you guys think? Any more than 3 and I'll go round the twist I reckon. Thoughts? Ta again,

ps. Thoughts on Singapore vs. Virgin Altitude?

I really like AA advantage . Never had an issue with them but they do take a very long time to answer this phone .

QF gets you One World - but it is getting difficult to find availability into/out of Australia since QF flights are snapped up by Platinums ahead of general release and QR is no longer available.

SQ gets you Star Alliance.

Avios apparently has good deals on QR between Australia and Europe, and is good value for domestic J. But anything else, it seems to offer poor value and charge sector by sector.

I collect VA, mostly for swapability into SQ but some people have found things they want using Velocity points.

But it all depends on what you want. I do not travel to the USA - I know some people do and their options may be better using other programmes.

Good points here both, I have (good problem) too many QF pts, and nil others hence the AVIOS plan I'll join and now will begin to secure some Velocity (sorry not Altitude as I mentioned) for their felixibility into Star A & SQ.
We also travel to Perth & Bris-vegas from Melb a coupe of time per year so AVIOS is a hit for J there....
It's a jungle out there hey??
