Commencing March 9th Finnair have announced a 4 x weekly flight to NRT avoiding Russian airspace. The new flight time is 13 hours. Any ideas how this will be achieved ?

With about +30% time, I'm guessing South of Black Sea would be about +40% (eg via Istanbul) by distance - perhaps some savings somewhere?!

via Bethel produces a similar distance - so go with the best air currents?!

UAE along with India and China, abstained from voting on the UN General Assembly holding a session on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Well that just about writes off EK for me.
I couldn't fly with anyone that supports what Russia is doing, no thank you.

Abstain vote as good as a vote of support.
All of which makes upcoming December 2022 trip to visit Seat Son who lives in Dubai rather ethically challenging.

JL 43 HND-LHR is taking the eastern route tonight avoiding Russian airspace by flying over Alaska, Greenland and Iceland.

I wonder if it will stop for fuel in Anchorage?

15hrs35mins scheduled flying time… should be ok for a 77W? (I’ve done over 16 hours ICN-ORD, and I think JL’s 777s are arranged with lower seat density than OZ)

I was thinking along the same lines, distance wise HND-ANC-LHR is about 150 miles shorter than HKG-JFK, a route CX were using 77W’s on for years.

I wonder if they’ll be using the route over ANC on the way back or will head east.

How soon do airlines release their NW schedule? I see that JAL has updated all their Europe flight times till 25/03 to reflect the additional time due to avoiding Russian airspace. However, from 26/03, it still reflects the old schedule. Is there a cut off date for them to change their schedule?

Restrictions or not, would passengers be comfortable overflying Russia right now?

I'm not sure I would in the larger region affected, accidents with a bottle of vodka and Igor tripping over his rocket launcher seem not to be held to account.

CX will resume using eastern Russian airspace for its HKG-JFK flights.

I'm going Boston to Hong Kong mid next year so hopefully this will be the case as well...

Just checked, yep, they have cut that flight time from nearly 18 hours to just over 15 hours on the last crossing :)
