BA heading (further) down the LCC path

For sure. Not sure what's the current scoop with BA Y catering - but in ye days of old it was perfectly fine for short flights. Get on, couple of G&Ts, a sarnie and landing. Perfect start and end to a weekend away from London. Scoring the left side of the first row of economy when they had convertible seating was also a bonus.

I'm thinking more in terms of leg room; I have long legs! I was far more comfortable in the exit row. For a 2.5 hour flight, catering isnt really a consideration, and I got a G&T in Y anyway...

Our recent BA Y flights (LIN-LHR-BGO ... OSL-LHR-ORY) we enjoyed catering in the LHR BA F lounge .... although I think the Y offer onboard might have been better :p

It's not just short haul where they are penny pinching. The other day, on SIN-LHR which is a 13 hour flight, between the post-departure meal and the landing meal in Economy, there were no snacks to be had. The cabin crew were sterling but said that BA now offered no snacks in economy, the new CEO has an LCC mindset and is cutting back everywhere.

As long as his bonus is still being paid.

Its a good thing qf dumped the ba jsa and got into bed with EK who still have a decent y soft product

While BA still has 9 seats across in a 777, I'll prefer that to the 10 across which EK squeezes in. Soft product be damned.
I finally tried the EK 777 and for the life of me cannot understand the bashing it receives here. I was in exit row aisle with fixed armrests and as an extra large person I was quite comfortable. I am guessing other aisle seats would be even better?

On the other hand sat on QF A330 in 23B with someone just as large in window seat and it was an awful experience. Those red seats are supposed to be an improvement?

Oh and the SQ A330 down the back the other night was awful. I look forward to ut again tonight. Not.

To each their own. Other airline economy seating may not be perfect but I don't need my shoulders constantly jostled by neighbouring passengers or trolleys/cabin crew/passengers walking down the tiny aisle on a 10 across. When BA descends to that level, IMO opinion they will have truly descended to LCC territory.

BA did have 10 across in Y in their 777s for a while. They were probably one of the first - or at least the first of the non-ME3 carriers - to adopt the idea, before they ditched it and returned to 9 across in the 777s.

I don't think it's unfathomable that BA could go back to 10 across in the 777s (at least, before the next generation of 777s that may have a wider cabin); by that time, despite the "downgrade" the seating pattern would be more or less a world standard.

Understood.

By the way there is not a single airline where I am not knocked over by trolleys/crew/passengers seated in an aisle seat.

I seriously thought the constant complaints of 10 across was regarding the comfort of the seat. I found it ok. I have booked the EK flight BNE-SIN in a few weeks and currently in 18C. Will try for exit row again.

Yes. Let's make the world standard as low as possible.

So I just looked at the new menu for BA short haul flights from 11 January 2017 and a G&T will now cost 6£!!!
I might become that guy who filled a plastic bottle with whiskey in the lounge before boarding (as mentioned in another thread)
