BA Status Match

Anyone done a status match with BA before? Would a fresh Aeroplan 50K from the HSBC Star Alliance card do the trick or do they want to see substantial flight history? I'm just looking to get some priority check-in/bags/etc on an upcoming trip with a group of friends, so I wouldn't be concerned about not requalifying.

There won’t be any history on this AFAIK BA has never done a blanket status match promo before.
Definitely worth having a crack.

I have BA Gold and its very useful.

I gave some thought to this. I currently have BA Silver (ex Gold, letting it bleed out) and could get the status match via my lifetime UA Platinum status. But then I don't have a USA address, but I'm sure I can find one in Beverly Hills 90210.

But then I thought, why bother...

Because you can? 😉

I just applied today (delayed it to optimise some planned and unplanned travel in the next 6 months). We should hear from fly2earth soon enough, but I’ll provide an update when they get back to me as another data point.

FWIW, I had to get a little “creative” with my UA Platinum Premier status which stated Trial rather than offering a regular valid thru expiry.

nope haven't heard from them for a week i'm sure they are working on it 🤣 🤣

Airlines trying to run their own status match/challenge campaigns... total disaster.
100% guaranteed it turns away more customers than they think they're gaining.

Most airline employees (including C-levels) have no clue that matching in 2024 is vastly different than it was in 2000, 2010 or even in 2020.

Hope BA get their cough together for you soon.

If you need a faster match - there are 2 other oneworld airlines offering matches that will upgrade your account within 24hrs.
Heck - even Sri Lanka will upgrade you faster than BA, and they're matching up to Platinum/Emerald without any nonsense flight challenges.

Almost everyone doing UA/DL match challenge does it to get the status they really want somewhere else.

<more rant about how clueless airlines are>

Agree, LATAM denied my status match from United because the company they work with that does the status match wanted to see my history with United even though the system approved of the membership card and hence was able to be asked to submit my aus id verification which could only be done if they have NO problems with my membership status.

After all is done, customer support gave me a hard time and went back to the initial review (the first stage of verifying the membership details) kept asking me to show the miles history contradicting their rules of what they say on the website.

So don't take anything they mention at face value can make up their own rules even their website mentions no such thing as flight history.

And having determined I only took 3,000 miles with United (after matching to United from another airline which platinum status expired). "Weird" company glad I didn't get status matched otherwise I would have been taking the SYD AKL route to score a J upgrade. Would have been a once in a lifetime flight though since everyone survived 🤣 🤣

Or that company which runs LATAM status match also does manages status match for most global airlines and can tell that your United status is a trial and was not earned on merit ;)

I do hear that LATAM elites are treated very well when it comes to upgrades...

Well they do not seem to be interested in the previous airlines history which i do not have plat status with anymore. bummer. no worth going for gold.

Assuming that you're a US/CA resident or were you able to bypass the requirement?

El Segundo method v2.0? 😉
Haha, maybe. Requires a small amount of photoshopping of UA virtual trial card though.

We‘d have to check with @serfty for possible copyright or trademark infringements though. Also, this hack takes it a few steps further than just changing addresses in profiles or billing details.
