Received the second letter today correcting their mistake in the original letter.

Interesting how Amex are being quite fastidious in their notification of this enhancement, to the point of sending out corrections like this. Compared with the sneaky tactics of the folk at Citi...

I've received my first letter - the one that really counts . Frankly, why bother with the second - I knew what they meant!

If that's the case, the thread title should be changed. :)
The OP started the thread not realising that it affects more than just the QF Ultimate card. It's not unreasonable to have it considered just 'amex changes' perhaps the subject is wrong, but the subject matter isn't.

Why do they make it so messy....canceled my Amex last year, I wonder if they know why.

I received the first letter yesterday as we have been away. I did phone my account manager and yes it is a no exceptions policy so the first 6 figures of QF points are "in the bank" .
Unfortunately you get addicted to flying on points so don't stop me now.

Got mine 2 days ago, called them today. I'm less than happy that I paid my annual fee last month and they change the T&Cs so soon after - I know they're within their notice period but the timing stinks.

Spoke to an individual in the Cards Closure section (after the initial CSE did a calculator comparison which showed I'd be worse off under the new earning regime) - I thought they'd at least offer to refund the Annual Fee to try and stop this customer of 21 years from walking. All he did was tell me that AMEX are entitled to change their T&Cs (which I agreed with him they are - but from my viewpoint their timing stinks) and inform me that they're "realigning this card more to people who travel". I asked him how that worked, when under the new JV between Qantas and Emirates, some fares purchased would no longer be eligible to a premium earn ... ie Flights with an EK flight number. He proceeded to tell me he was looking at the QF site and under a SYD-LHR flight booking screen he could see no EK flight numbers.

At this point I considered that AMEX really aren't into understanding why I've maintained my accounts with them for so long nor keeping me interested - so my question is: who are everyone going to?

I'm thinking I'll transfer the majority of my spend over to my Woollies MC but am looking for a home for my balance transfer out of AMEX - and that usually means a new CC account.

Regards,

BD

Presently have QSCU Visa, have been approved for Woollies MC. 20000 sign on if you apply on the QF website.

Hi puppysparkes, can you confirm you mean QSCU Visa - I can't see that card offered. HSBC Visa were offering 20,000 sign-on if you applied and were approved by 30 March (I think I need to clear my cache!!) and there's a similar deal for Woollies (whic,h, let's face it is HSBC anyway!) ... but I already have the Woolies card.

Apologies are in order, it's the CommBank Amex on the QF website. So disregard my post!

You always know when you have spent enough when you get contacted (genuinely) by the fraud section. My chase for Qantas points has been noticed.

Does one not get a partial refund if cancelling part way through the year?

Hi Daver6, I've never seen such a thing and I certainly wasn't offered even that when discussing with AMEX.

Yes it is not good for Amex to be uncompetitive against some of the big 4 banks with their co-branded cards when we think of those 4 banks along the lines of "those greedy coughs".
