Bad news from Amex [QF Ultimate Card - reduced point earnings]

Dang!
If this is our last Hurrah with this as an ATO card then time is running out (21st July)
With the rule where you cannot put Ultimate into credit the maximum points you can earn between now and the end is about 20 times your credit limit at your 1.5 point rate per card.
Well that is about 3 million each so that is a bummer.
I will re-load using their auto pay option to avoid the card stopping.

I would be pretty happy with 6M points!!! :P

It would remove 4 million dollars from a bank account to do that so we need to be "fabulously wealthy" prior to making this last hurrah. Most would prefer the cash!

I wonder if payments submitted via postbillpay and paypal will attract better rates.

How much exactly can you overpay the ATO and have them credit back? :P

I would have preferred to have the next 6 million points to come from Citi Select as it was such a bargain. Mrscove now uses her card to buy shoes.

Yes you can overpay the ATO but it does draw attention to yourself. In these circumstances they may choose not to refund you or take their time while they check you over and luckily they don't use rubber gloves.

Especially if you over pay by a 1/4 million! ;)

Isn't this more of a reflection of QFF charging too much for points, rather than the financial institution trying to screw customers? No other FF programs get this treatment.....

Why is it Qantas's fault? Considering it is Amex changing the earning structure on all cards, you can't blame them (heck they still offer 2:1 for Qantas purchases too). being that Amex transfers to many other FF programs i'd say the blame is with Amex, or were they too generous to start with?

With time running short I have maxed out 2 cards first thing this morning and I will try for a gold medal in QF points making by July 21st

I've not received anything from AMEX about this enhancement.

I notice that your letter says "change from earning 1 Qantas frequent flyer point per $1...". Is this a typo or is that really what your card has been earning? Mine has been 1.5points/$ for everything up until now'.

Good point. I just checked my activity and I have been earning 1.5.

I might actually earn more points with this change, eg: here's last month's spread:

That's what i'm thinking too. At least i'd get better than 0.5 points.

I wonder how my rent payments will be calculated (I use my Amex to pay the rent earning 1.5/dollar atm).

What is it with US CC providers throwing amazing deals for FF'ers to all US people, and Australia is stiffing us. They're sure to blame the RBA's rules limiting charges to customers as the reason now.
