It looks like some good improvements, but I'm not terribly a fan of BA opting out of things like usual! If they're not interested in providing the benefits perhaps they shouldn't be in the alliance!

Not sure what you mean ?
BA most certainly does provide priority baggage for OW elites IME.
The only exclusion I can see is for their "Hand Baggage Only Fares" and they also apply that exclusion to their own Golds and Silvers.

EDIT: Just read the other links apart from the OW press release and I see what you mean.
This doesn't however reflect my experience with BA where my bags have had Priority tags and lately First tags on my recent flights with them.

I also have experienced priority baggage as a OWS without needed to ask when travelling in Y. It seemed to go hand in hand with being able to use the business checkin counters. However it being an official OW policy is a positive IMO, and don't support views - well that's not really an improvement.

When I asked to transfer luggage from QF to OZ I was firmly told no can do, although both airlines have codeshare agreement. But when I tried to transfer OZ to QF (with very low expectations) to my surprise they managed to do it for me.
Another example is TG to RJ but not vv.
Rules may have changed over the years but generally speaking *A is more flexible with luggage transfers to other alliances IME.

Just because within an alliance it so happens there are quite a few carriers which have several interlines, that's not a (gazetted) benefit of that alliance. But if the ability to check through interline across the alliances is that important to you, then so be it.

Interestingly, QF and OZ have an interline baggage and ticket issuance agreement, however we know that fairly recently QF has tightened considerably on what they will check in, viz. restricted mainly to *O and some other partners. This is especially true if both are on separate tickets, let alone the OZ is issued on the OZ flight number, not the QF flight number.

Also, there's little point for interline if it is to QF domestic, since all bags need to be reclaimed anyway. But you might have had something like ICN [OZ] SIN [QF] BNE.

For whatever it is worth, getting tickets which include airlines across more than one alliance and that have no long standing interline or bilateral agreement within the same journey, is not common.

Are you saying if Gold benefits don't differ much from Platinum benefits that's not a devaluation of Platinum?

Why not offer all Gold members the same benefits as Platinum members?

But you are getting confused here. It is not an alliance benefit as others have mentioned, it is up to each specific airline to set their own interline conditions.

It's just happen that these airlines belong to a specific alliance. Call it an airline benefit or an alliance benefit, it doesn't change the bottom line - some *A airlines allow luggage connections to OW airlines but not vv.

STaying off topic, but the use of the word interlining on this forum is pretty sloppy. Interlining basically occurs when tickets for multiple carriers are issued on one ticket, and most legacy carriers have interline agreements with other legacy carriers. In most cases on this board, when folk ask about interlining, they are actually asking about baggage through check. On a single ticket this is not an issue, most interline agreements have baggage through check policies as well. The problem is, folk want to extend this when they are on single tickets, which isn't really interlining. Baggage through check requires an agreement between the two airlines, and then the check-in airline has to agree to through check if the second airline is on a separate ticket. Star is not always better - anecdotally I have heard ANZ won't even throcuh check on its own services if on separate tickets.

Hmmm ... Just noticed - this extra allowance is somewhat limited - basically fly First/Businessand it will be difficult to benefit.

For the "Piece System" - it's an additional bag only if the allowance was one Piece originally; with the weight system it is only 15kg over the economy allowance.
