Had the card for over 3 months, the bonus has showed up in my last statement but still shows 0 being credited to my QFF account.

Found this out from BW, they do a points sweep once a month around the 5th - which is not on a public T&Cs document.

Points will only be swept if:

> The account has been open for at least 60 days. When transferring from another credit card account, the customer must have held a Bankwest credit card for at least 60 days.

> There are no redemption holds on the account at the time of the sweep, e.g. if the customer has made a late payment a redemption hold will be placed on the account until the end of the current statement cycle.

> There is a valid member number attached to the customer. A valid number means the number matches the details held by Qantas for this customer. The membership number must match the first name and initial held by Qantas for that membership number.

90,000 Bonus Qantas points when customers spend $6000 on eligible purchases within the first 90 days of account opening

• Qantas bonus points will be credited to their Bankwest account on their next statement after the 90 day spend criteria period has been met.

• Qantas points are transferred from Bankwest to Qantas around the 5th of every month.

• Customers will therefore receive their bonus points anywhere from 95 to 125 days after credit card account open date.

Honestly from the day I spent the required spend with the BankWest Card, I had applied for an ANZ Mortgage, got approved, settled AND received my 300k points weeks ago.

Points transferred a few days ago (on the 5th), conditionally approved mid July and received card late July so took a while...

Having a look at this.
Is this actually true, you don't need to spend a cent on the card towards your trip - just having the card itself is enough?!
How many other cards offer this?

Cardholders
If you have a Bankwest Gold Mastercard, Bankwest Platinum Mastercard or Bankwest World Mastercard, you’re eligible for Complimentary Overseas Travel Insurance when you:
a. travel to an overseas destination from Australia, and
b. hold an eligible credit card at the time of loss that has been activated and is not cancelled or suspended.

Complimentary Overseas Travel Insurance
This benefits table shows a summary of the benefits and limits available. These benefits are a limited level of travel insurance automatically provided to cardholders (for example, there is no cover for travel delay expenses, delayed luggage or existing medical conditions).
There is no cost for this cover and no requirement to spend a certain amount on prepaid travel costs by charging those costs to your eligible credit card account.

Looks like you have to apply individually for the upgraded benefits, which I take is assessed on a case by case basis.

How to obtain Upgraded Benefits
If you want to obtain Upgraded Benefits you need to tell us that you will be travelling by:
› applying through the Bankwest website or App, or
› by calling 1300 468 340 before commencing the journey or during the journey if you are applying for an additional period of cover.
The Upgraded Benefits are a contract of insurance between us and you. A premium applies. We will issue a Certificate Of Insurance to you.

They are part of the CBA group who have offered this benefit for their premium cards for a few years now. You get upgraded benefits with CBA for free as well (excluding some pre conditions) that seems to be bit different to BankWest. The onus is on you to actually apply for it via their NetBank application to get the higher level of cover

I rang to cancel the Platinum card to see if they would waive the annual fee for next year but was told no, even with Corona affecting the world's economy. Worth a try.

Move on...I applied for and was approved for a Coles Platinum Mastercard, told them I was retired and only put down my Super pension; left out other sources of income to keep it simple.

No fees on overseas spending, earns 2 Fly Buys per $ = 0.87 Velocity (or 1 Vel if you wait for a 15% transfer bonus) = 0.65 Kris Flyer.

However, note there is a fee on ATM cash withdrawals overseas (I use Citi+ for those:))
thank you. will look at it.

Some banks have seemingly weird criteria, as JV says, I'd move on. For example, Macquarie won't approve anything for me, no idea why, but I've never been successful with an application for a Mac backed card, despite being fine everywhere else.

+1 from me as to what JV says, re the Coles Rewards Mastercard (not Platinum Mastercard, that's just all Coles cards with a limit of 6k+). They have three versions, only the Black one (Rewards MC) is fee free overseas afaik. This has a $99 fee, but also gives pretty good rewards for a cheap Mastercard product.
thank you. worth a shot, even though travel is a dream atm.

Same here. No offer to waive the annual fee.
I lost track of time due to covid and didnt know i've had this for year. The annual fee popped up in my statement and i'm glad they give some leeway to cancel and refund the fee.
