Best seats economy A380?

Hi all,

I'm flying MEL>LAX return in June, wondering should I try and snag the exit row seats now or roll the dice at the QP desk to get better seats.
I'm PS/QP.

Cheers,
Matt.

Does anyone have any advise around this one?
My experience getting better seats at the desk has been great, but MEL>LAX I'm not sure...

It is a lottery at the check in desk, but you have certainty if you pay in advance would be my comment. The one thing I do see when I monitor my bookings through EF is a release of better seats on the day of the flight when upgrades are processed and high status frequent flyers are upgraded from decent seats in each cabin to the next cabin up, but if it was me I wouldn't take the gamble.

My wife and I had 36JK on our way to LHR last week the recline was OK the only problem I had with 36J was that people coming through the curtain tended to throw the thing at you We found the space between the seat and the wall ideal for storing our hand luggage that allowed us to give "our" overhead space to the Gent in 35K it looked like that space on floor is available to 35JK 35DEF did get some traffic through I noticed the Gent in 35E had Surfty's white socks on

Even the crew used it as a thoroughfare. It is a shame because like you say if you could prevent it they make mighty fine Y seats for long haul.

i missed 66A because of an op up, but had a look when I wandered down the cabin on my second leg and I would definitely agree with serfty that it looks to be about the best Y seat on a 388.

Thanks for your feedback on UD Y.
Just wondering why you may think 66A is better than 80A/K or even 71D?

On my recent trips in both 80A and K, I realised one advantage is quicker meal service - starts at 79 back, before going to the middle Y cabin (rows 66-77)..

Best economy seats on A380 QF-11 SYD - LAX (UD exit row?)

Hi everyone

I am booked on QF11 on Dec 16th flying SYD - LAX economy and having trouble knowing which seats to go for. I know there are lots of opinions on the best seats and have found exit row seats on the upper deck at an extra cost of $180.

So I wondered is this worth it? I was also wondering where the self service snack bars are on the A380?

Hoping to hear your expert opinions :)

I would like to secure my seat as soon as I can, and I also notice that 48B and 48C are available. Am I right in saying that these are the seats which will give lounge access during boarding?

I think the consensus is that upstairs, 35J/K are good, but 35D/E/F are to be avoided unless you like having your feet tramped on.

48A/B/C is next to the galley; up to you, but I find the noise and light very annoying, plus you can get bumped by the cart and the FAs. I think they got rid of the lounge/weird boarding for those seats?

I've booked 66A for my trip; all reports for that row have been good.

As mentioned by others and from my last trip experience, 32A/B or J/K are excellent!

Thanks blackcat - good advice. Do you think it is worth paying the $180 extra for 35K? Seems like a very high price for an exit seat request on top of the fare. I'll pay it though if it is worth the extra.

I've never tried 35K, but I have bought exit rows before and think they are worth every $$. I have long legs and I hate being squashed. Its up to you if you feel like the extra space will make your trip more enjoyable.

I've not used them myself, but I have a deal with the "kids" that they pay for the airfares and then I pay for exit row seats for them if available. they seem to think it is definitely worth it (but then they aren't paying). On the A380 you get a lot of extra room apparently.

Re: Best economy seats on A380 QF-11 SYD - LAX (UD exit row?)

I'd pay the exit row "surcharge" for 35J/K and 66A and in truth if I couldn't get those seats I'd probably pay for 48. These seats do provide a significant comfort improvement over standard seats.

Having said that I'd be paying for me and not a family so I can see that it soon adds up if there are three or four pax.

More than 80A/K?

I see 80A/K and 71D as better than standard seats. That said I'd take 35J/K over any other Y seats. Then maybe 66A.

My requirements might be different to many though. I like to get of the plane reasonable quickly and top deck Y gets off pretty quickly. I have been known to sacrifice comfort in order to get of the plane quickly...particularly en route to The US.

Thanks, I booked 35K for the extra $180 :)

Just booked 35J for MEL-LAX and 35k for LAX-MEL.

It looks like if reclined you could see out of the rear window - is that correct?

Also, what is the IFE like in these Exit Row Seats?

Thanks
Will

If reclined in 35, the window behind the door becomes significantly more yours...than that of those behind. There is just the 1 window behind the door

The IFE in this exit row pulls out from the bottom side of the seat (different from the PE seat which pulls out of the armrest). Pls see the image below (35 J & K), that may answer your question in a visual way....

Should have said in my last post the window "belongs" to 36JK so no window view even when reclined my wife and I have just returned from GVA and had 36JK over and back

A good Q for the well informed: 80A/K or 32D/G (A/B/J/K taken)?
