Has anyone done the homework or is familiar with whether transferring to etihad or velocity is more worth while? flybuys has the 15% bonus on transfers to velocity at the moment but capped at 138000 (60030 va miles). I was hoping to take advantage of this offer, but after reading this thread it seems like Etihad is the best way to go? i dont have an Etihad account and have never flown on their metal. Any insights?

It really depends on where you are wishing to fly, in what class etc. To fly domestically on VA, EY guest would normally be the much better option. To fly internationally VA seems to be better.

EY Guest is also currently offering 500 points for opening an account

have Etihad points from FlyBuys and have easily booked a couple of rewards flights for family (including london -Briz return) even though i've never flown on them..

With the 15% bonus on transfers, Velocity can work out better for VA domestic bookings - it just depends on the route.

Don't forget EY points expire, where as Velocity ones don't (assuming there is activity on the account), which could leave you with orphaned points if you don't have other bookings to make through EY in the future.
