Having our journey through Austria delayed in Tyrol due avalanches. And being the one doing all the organizing I was a tiny bit distressed.
Then ending up in perhaps one of the most coziest chalets all the way up in the mountains, with possibly the best view anyone could ask for. Lovely old couple running the place, and their very limited English and delicious food and hospitality was amazing. Fresh snow nonstop for two days so really had the opportunity to slow down a fast paced trip (see as much of Europe as possible, whilst consuming copious amounts of alcohol!) and relax in a ridiculously serene environment with homemade gluhwein (nomnomnom, non of that rubbish bulk made stuff), and the company of some of your best mates. The days spend wandering around in the forests covered in soft snow and getting lost off the beaten track and finding all kinds of things ... unforgettable, even made wet socks for the whole day bearable.
I've found in all my travels, sometimes an unplanned and unexpected adventure, getting out of the big cities, exploring non touristy areas, and taking the paths traveled by, is really the best fun one will ever find.
