I wonder if the CL ones actually work or still manage to route your luggage off to ADL when you're actually going to PER
I have been seeing a lot of black tags lately (most on cabin bags but still )

I prefer to cut the cord off mine and use them as coasters in the QP

getting off the plane today I noticed an old fella who had a black q bag tag. I'd not seen one of these before.. are they CL or something like that?
However will be looking to take my >$1M spend with Qantas elsewhere if CL status doesn't get offered to me in the next year, with me doing enough to keep Platinum. Certainly don't understand how Qantas decides on who gets CL. Any ideas?
The mysteries of CL membership.
My current Chairman was CL for years, however he told me he lost it after a few years of very little flying. Qantas reduced him to Platinum for 2 years and then his LTG kicked in.
So it would appear that CL status isn't forever!
Happy with P1 status at the moment, have a successful upgrade history over the last few months, about 50% on upgrades from business to first. I travel to Singapore at least once a month, sometimes twice a month. Currently grossing 5000 ish status points a year, since 2007 have amassed 19750 status points.

If we consider that in FY11, Qantas (the airline itself - excluding; QFF, freight & JQ) had revenues of just over $11 billion, and if we assume a CL membership of around 7,500 - then I would posit that once an individual is capable of exercising direct control over their own QF flying worth above ~$1.5 million a year (i.e. ~ 11000 / 7500) they should expect to come under the CL radar, if not at an even earlier "influence level".Your $1m spend is not significant in the big picture. CL is given to influencers...
QANTAS revenue is $11.3B, without being rude your million is simply the part of the revenue number that gets rounded up or down. if you decide how you choose a preferred airline by your own CL status then perhaps you should move it elsewhere. I'm sure Virgin would welcome you with open arms and be happy to give you their top level.
If you really do want CL then look at listing your business publicly and spend around $5M on travel, that should do it.
