It's a standard exemption, I believe. I have successfully ticketed PER-xDOH-JNB on one award, just as I expected it to be.
How recently was this?

It is not listed as one of the specific exceptions in the resources I have used, but I do note jonNYC indicated last October there were likely to be some additions.

Ticketed on 10 August last year.

Got it sorted. It is two awards, BNE to MEL 20000 MEL to EBB 100000

Thanks for yr adive everyone.
How long is the stop in MEL? That doesn't make sense unless over 24 hours.

It is known as the Doha exception, but it only applicable to certain routes... Europe to South Pacific, Asia 1 and Asia 2; Africa to Asia 1&2, South America to Asia 1&2.

so you can't fly USA to Africa under the doh exception for example (or South Pacific to Africa... in theory at least)
USA to Africa allows Doha (American Airlines Award Routing Rules - One Mile at a Time)

The layover is 4 hours in MEL.
So it should be 100000 then as i suspected.
Now im confussed......

Re: BNE - EBB F Chart says 100 000 Agent says 120 000

In my experience AA has been funny with international awards that include Australia. It's not even possible to book PER-xADL/MEL-SYD/BNE as one award. Similarly, while it's possible to book PER-xMEL/SYD-DOH as one award (even with the relatively significant backtracking and the fact there's a direct PER-DOH), it's not possible to do AUH-xSYD/MEL-PER because EY's published fare on this route would involve VA on the domestic leg which can't be booked with AA.

I suspect the issue drivatruk has encountered that has put the award at 120k is that QR is unlikely to have a published fare BNE-EBB, which is one of the requirements of an AA award. This is where the award charts can be somewhat misleading.

(It also would have been great if we could have had this discussion in the dedicated AAdvantage newbie thread.)
