I don't know whether this has being mentioned anywhere but there are renovations going on at the monent at the BNE Qantas Lounge.

The section where we have held the Flyertalk AGM for the last couple of years has been closed off and will soon become part of the Business Lounge. It is probably a good move for the Business Lounge as it can get very crowded on Friday nights but also can't help thinking how this will affect the Qantas Lounge as this can also get packed on Friday afternoons/evenings.

I guess Qantas has space constraints at BNE domestic but clearly had overcrowding that needed to solved one way or another. Hope it does not eventually impact on anyone too much.

Interesting development, it was sort of odd having a mobile phone free zone tucked away behind that corner. Wonder where they’ll move it to, as there’s no where else that’s nearly quiet enough.

Would be difficult to sit in any part of the lounge and have some peace and quiet.

Perhaps the section next to it can be the new mobile free zone. It is straight in front of you once entering the lounge but most people usually turn left and head towards bar/buffet and desktops.

Yes! Thanks for mentioning it.

I suggested the exact same thing either here or on FT. The J lounge can get really busy during rush hours.

They can make part of the far end (with the wooden floor) the mobile-free zone?

The real question is, where are we going to the the AGM next year? We may have to move it to the J lounge. :)

its a pity they dont move the J lounge to where the old lounge was, then again that might upset the CL members currently using the space.

Its almost time that Qantas makes a major extension on the lounge as I am sure a few days a week the lounge both parts would be full. I was in the J lounge Friday and was surprised at how full it was even at 10:30am.

Other than moving the lounge entrance forward a bit, I don't see where they could extend it. Aren't they on the edge of the building already? Be a long wait for the redevelopment of the terminal.

As can the QP so really they're just screwing the QP-users to help the J lounge which was never big enough.

The true solution would be to expand the space of both but once again QF seem to be treating BNE like a backwater.

Why not just convert the entire QF terminal into the Qantas Club lounge? That way all of their passengers can benefit from the lounge experience.

Awww, don't be like that... QF treats anywhere outside of SYD like a backwater, not just BNE...

That’s a great suggestion NM.

I was looking on BNE airports website and their "big vision" seems to have changed from what I last remember it as. But if the Northern Expansion of the domestic terminal were to go ahead, the QP and J lounge would surely have to be moved, and then they could expand it’s size, but that’s probably a long way off, though is the best option, no?

JQ will probably put a lounge once the satellite works are completed in that area, that will take some of the pressure off things.

You think they’re actually going to go ahead with their lounge offerings at last then? Nothings really happened since the OOL lounge, the ones in NZ aren’t theirs.

I would think it’d make more sense to make JQ lounges where there aren’t QP’s and sort of integrate the network between QF and JQ.

Great news for those of us with J lounge access. I am at the stage when flying out of BNE on Friday that I am tempted not to bother guesting the team into the lounge as it is so packed. Very often there is no seating for the three of us.

I spend most of my time in the Qantas Lounge these days, after having something to eat in the business lounge, and I can just see it getting a lot more crowded than usual.

One solution could be to move the entrance forward another 5 yards or so (down to the corridor leading to gates 16-21) and bring the service desk areas on either side of the entrance to a single service desk area at the common entrance. There is also a CityFlyer service desk at gate 22 anyway and I cannot see the point in having 2 service desks inside the lounge.

Another solution could be to take over some of the area used for the food court or news stand outside.

For anyone interested it would appear that the mobile phone free area in the Qantas Lounge is now immediately to the left of where the area was previously where we held the Flyertalk AGM.

Looks to be the same size and is right in front of you as you walk into the lounge.

Will that help get people out of the QP given QP members aren't allowed access to the JQ lounge at OOL. iirc

Exactly, I can’t imagine making a pay-for-use lounge would help get people out of the QP, per current JQ lounge access rules. And taking it to the extreme, if they then said QP members flying JQ don’t have QP access I think JQ might start losing customers. So they’d have to be very careful what they chose to do.

markis10, is there a lounge planned somewhere that you can point us to, or is this a bit of inside knowledge/speculation?

It will help when QF change the lounge access to prevent JQ pax accessing the QP ;), watch this space :)
