Hi,

I’ve got my flight to LA next week and am stressing out now as I’m reading and hearing that one hour transit won’t be enough time? I’ve never been to Sydney airport but I’m reading I would catch the qantas seamless shuttle? Would I then need to go through customs/immigration and then get to my terminal? I’m assuming my checked in baggage from Brisbane will go straight to LA from my understanding. I’m really stressed so any pointers and tips would be appreciated

If Qantas do make you take your original BNE-SYD flight, and there's a good chance that they will, inform the crew of your situation.

The crew can often help with a quicker exit off the plane at least. Eg they can move you forward and even into business (if there's a spare seat) shortly before landling.

Well if they are so worried about the terrible OTP, they shouldn't be selling a connection that short. Not the passengers fault. So they either hold the aircraft and run late (causing more disruptions in LAX) or they depart without you and then they have to accommodate you on an alternative.

No no no
If the airline does not want to change it for free to an earlier flight, I would HUACA (hang up and call again, and again and again). If that does not work go to airport extra early and ask to be put on earlier flight - explain that 1 hr is not enough to make the connecting flight.

For me it’s 3hrs.

Welcome and join in the fun

11 left at 11 today. The inbound was fine, so one can suspect connections were potentially part of the reason for delay there. Due in 45min late to LAX.

just for a fun data point.

In recent history, QF507 appears to generally run on time.

w

There are earlier flights out of BNE at 6am, 6:30am & 7:10am.
Yeah that’s good but in regards to the earlier flights I’ve called 4 times today and they wouldn’t change me. The most recent call 20 minutes ago said all earlier flights are fully booked…however if I go online now I can still buy tickets?..lol

Yeah, thats not uncommon. Unless you are Platinum or above on Qantas, their call centres are often more detrimental to your booking than useful. Like I said, steep learning curve :)

... without a fare adjustment.

And if flights are running on time on your day of travel, that's what the airport check-in staff will likely say too. It seems they can't always make the changes that they used to be able to make. It's now either "computer says yes" or you, the passenger has to call Qantas.

Refer to my post about Married Segments. This is why.

Not this.

all earlier flights are fully booked
Is this an award? FWIW, in recent time call centre staff have been strait out lying to callers by saying "filly booked".

In this case, there is plenty of availability:

They're bookable as standalone flights, yes, but not in combination with a connecting flight to LAX which is what OP has.

It would require someone in revenue management to fix this.

Gate staff do still have flexibility with married segments, I managed to get a transfer to an earlier MEL-SYD flight when a QF flight change left me with 1h25m turnaround to QF7. MEL terminal staff didn't even blink.

Yes, hence the Y & B availability as per my post. By "booked out" I assume they mean "booked out in your fare class". OP was quoted 1K to change the flight earlier which is consistent with this.

Thanks for the expansion/clarification of your statement.

In all cases, it was only ever suggested a request be made to Qantas to change the booking gratis as a consideration of the short connection time.

In any case, I may be watching QF507 on the 20th with interest.
