Hi,

I’ve got my flight to LA next week and am stressing out now as I’m reading and hearing that one hour transit won’t be enough time? I’ve never been to Sydney airport but I’m reading I would catch the qantas seamless shuttle? Would I then need to go through customs/immigration and then get to my terminal? I’m assuming my checked in baggage from Brisbane will go straight to LA from my understanding. I’m really stressed so any pointers and tips would be appreciated

Calls I’ve managed to get someone to organise to get onto the 6:30 flight(so an hour earlier) however we will have to re-check In our bags again they can’t send it straight to lax as with my current flight…what do y’all think?

Just book it, that's definitely not the case. I'm guessing they've split the legs to resolve the married segment issue.

BNE will check through to LAX regardless.

Yeah I said this to the lady she seemed
To not know this was possible I’m general as she said you’re going domestic to domestic so you can only check in to domestic and pick up and re-check in at Sydney international. I told her she must be mistaken as they have dedicated kiosks for connecting flight check in. She went to check with her support team… so I will see if they can send straight to lax

It will be absolutely fine, seems you got one smart enough to know how to split the segments but not smart enough to know how international connections work.

It's an improvement and was all you needed today.

Yes hahah… I am beyond relived.

Thanks for all your help and the community’s support and advice. Y’all some legends 👌❤️

Is the 1 hr MCT between QF DOM to QF INT at SYD a relatively new thing? I swear it used to be 1.5 hrs.

I thought so too but then found this:

Did it get increased during covid and this is just returning to what it was before? I too could have sworn it was 1:30.

Definitely do it. Even if you have to collect bags you can go via the Syd airport train which runs every 5 mins and takes about 5 mins. No worries with security as the bus drops you outside of the secure area, so you will have to clear security again anyway.

Good news!

And was it without any additional cost?

As for the bags, when you check-in at the international connections desk in BNE, they should sort it out for you. You shouldn't have an issue through-checking them.

Oh and make sure you receive a new e-ticket with the changes.

I'm late to this thread but I can't believe Qantas are still selling these short connections.

I saw the same thing when I was booking award BNE-SYD-BKK for next month but in the end I wasn't even comfortable with just over 2 hour connection.

Why are they not updating MCT? 1 hour domestic to international is just crazy.

Even if everything is on time all you're doing is going to transfer, immigration, security, gate with no break in between.

Yes! No expense for the change thank god otherwise I would have been livid lol.

Yep thanks I’ll definitely do that and I’ve received an e-tickets and the change has also been reflected in my qantas app so it’s looking all good now.

You got screwed. Did you check in at the international connections desk?
At the time Adelaide had no separate international connections desk, was all handled by the one desk. Happened 3 times in perhaps 40 trips, so not a bad hit rate. Usually it would be because the automatically listed connections weren't amenable, so I had booked a flex fare earlier in the day and then the international exfil in the evening.

Great news that persistence with calling got you a good result. That is so much better for a stress free transfer over to Int.

As others have said QF absolutely should (I want to use the word "will" but that implies a guarantee I can't make :( ) check you all the way through to LAX (and your bag) and so you just transfer across with your carry on).

Remember to check in via the "international connection" signed counter(s) at BNE domestic.

Enjoy your flights next Wednesday and hope there are no significant delays impacting on your MIA flight at the other end. That's going to be a very long day indeed (and I have one quite similar coming up myself, though headed to ATL so not quite as far and luckily in a comfy seat).

filly booked
Sounds like the Cape Town call centre? 🤣
I am not sure married segments are relevant
Correct

You have learnt the power of HUACA !!🙌

I would not worry about not being able to check your bags in at BNE all the way to LAX - meaning not having to pick then up at SYD and recheck.
Just turn up at BNE checkin - but it must be the "international connections" counter and say:
1) I am flying to LAX via SYD
2) then ask the agent to "please check my luggage through to LAX"

Also make sure you have the e-tickets and print them out.
It counts for zilch if you can see your booking in the app but you dont have the e-tickets.
