I think he's raised the term "arrogant tosser" to WP1 level.

The cost differential between J and F is not that great in the context of ministerial travel costs. I think when the PM or FM is travelling on official business they should fly F ... it is not about flattering their egos but more about projecting an image of wealth, power, and status for our country.

But here is my greatest gripe about Carr complaining about J class ... not because J class is perfect (far from it on any airline) but because it is unbecoming of the "foreign minister of a middle power" to fire off complaints to commercial airlines, whinge about the quality of service, and publishing them. It makes this country look small-minded and irrelevant.

When they are travelling trans-Tasman or domestic though, they can very well sit with most of their constituents in economy.

I said to Bob Carr once at a party... "why do you wear those pin striped suits Bob?" answer was "it makes me look like a statesman!".

arrogant tosser never :)

Of course, Bobbi could have done what I do when travelling on J - take his own pyjamas (recycled from a previous QF flight). Or his tracksuit.

And I'm shocked - shocked I say - to see the traitorous Fairfax press also having a shot at Bobbi. Its obvious that wicked Fairfax shareholder Gina is interfering in Editorial, no doubt on the instructions of Rupert, probably via the control of the Melbourne Israel lobby . Its the end of 'Quality Journalism #'

(# TM and pat. pend.) .

Little more detail in this pic.

The man has no class.

Firstly he should not need subtitles any of Wagner's Works, they were written in German he should be able to appreciate them in German.

Secondly a true DYKWIA would complain about F in the way he has complained about J. Pfft

He is a common little oik in my book.

:p

Still enjoying Wagner in the original Deutsch might be a negative given some of the others who did so. It should be sung in English with a lashings of Elgar in the gaps.

Quite. Just the right amount of pomp for the circumstances.

I can just imagine Bob: "Clearly Australia needs an 'Air Force 2'..."

Depersonalising the response. Australia is in the G20 and a current member of the Security Council and we should be able to transport a senior minister anywhere in the world at anytime.

Agree?

There is the RAAF 737 that the PM usually gets around in, and I think its generally available for other ministers if the trip is important / time constrained enough.

But I don't believe any 'senior' minister at any time should have an Australian government plane.

Disagree with you there, I don't want a crack pot with an agenda to have a go at an easy target. For the publics sake they should use some form of private transport.

Matt

I think Australia being where it is, maintaining a number of planes for the occasional long-haul flight our PM and senior ministers take may not be cost effective. I think the PM and GG should travel on Air Force planes, sure, but I think the senior ministers can fly commercial.

Agreed. I'm guessing Bobby would rather put up with Wagner on SQ over RAAF staff/grub.

Even without English subtitles?

I am told on good authority that Herr Carr is not exactly unfamiliar with Deutsch, having studied the language at the Goethe Institut for some time. One has to wonder why he really was complaining.

Umm. It's called a joke. Something that demonstrates the humour bypass of the right wing nutbags.

Bob Carr took my P1* shadow on a CBR-SYD flight in early March... when I pointed out that he'd dropped his iPod on the floor after he awoke from a power doze, he snorted, picked it up, snorted again, and said nothing.

He was reading a biography of Hillary Clinton.
