Got my points too, 4 of the 5 transactions occurred before I got the email (although after the 9th)
I use this as my default card, my husband never uses his (maybe 1 transaction after the min spend was complete) & got the offer also. So agree, it seems completely random!
(neither of us got the BP $50 offer though :-( )

Well I did as someone suggested here and bought 5 cans of cat food at 79c each. Went to coles and just did 1 at a time through the self serve checkout. Still haven't received the offer but will see if I get the points. Anyone who hasn't received it got the points yet?

Let us know how you go!

Do you have a cat or do you write it off as the cost of the points.

Haha! Luckily I actually have a cat. And she occasionally needs to eat. :P

I have two, but I don't consider myself lucky. Cursed maybe, but then again it was our choice. They can be a real pain the proverbial. Especially when we're trying to sleep. Or keep baby asleep.

Cheap cat food is a very good way of trying this bonus out. I don't have the offer either but what harm can it do to try.

I definitely hear you! Ours can be so cute and the next minute a demon from hell lol. And yep can't hurt to try.

Ahh flashbacks to the promo 8-10 years ago or so where they had 5k for 5 transactions, 10k for 10 and 20k per 20 (three different targetted offers) for the QF ultimate card, where there was *no* limit on how many you could earn (enrollment lasted around 4-5 days before they locked it down). Many of us made a *lot* of points off that ;)

Wow. I would have bought a years supply of cat food if I'd been around then.. And Coles would have been wondering what the hell I was doing paying for 1 tin at a time.

The promo excluded 'splitting bills' but people found it still worked (ie, paying a phone bill off in 1-2c increments per transaction). I myself bought a lot of single chiillis from Coles (although this was pre-self-service check-out days so you got strange looks) ;)

It was before my time for sure but I still like hearing the stores. :)

The points certainly posted for split-bills, though Amex also suspended many people that split bills when they judged it unreasonable (ie they would allow say splitting yearly into monthly, but deemed multiple very small repeated tx as unreasonable. I think it largely depended on how large the amount they owed you was as to whether they "audited" you or not.

They suspended me for " spend that may have been suspicious " and tried to deny me 2.9 million points but could not prove I split bills etc when challenged by me to show spefically how I had breeched their T&C (I had multiple David Jones tx but that was legit as they make you pay per department in store..and various small tx, but all legit even if numerous!).

I chatted to a work aquaintance several years later and learnt that Amex denied him 2 million points due to bill-splitting.

PS: The promo started with virtually no T&C apart from the more general Mileage Reward T&Cs. It is arguable whether bill-splitting would be "abuse" under the Amex MR T&C. The promo lasted several months and after it started Amex introduced some additional Promo T&Cs one of which was a specific reference to bill-splitting.

3000 Points have now posted for me 2 days after qualifying.(I was sent offer)
Wife qualified with 5tx yesterday (she was not sent the offer). No points yet, but will see what happens after another day or so.

As if Amex actually know you are splitting bills. For anyone with a basic knowledge of how the payment systems work, would know that payment systems are quite basic, I.e. Customer, merchant, amount and if you are lucky a basic categorisation of the transaction. This is all just bluster, Amex trying to put people off gaming the system, and largely this works because people think they have all this info. They don't.

Under the revised T&C of the promo they did not need more than the basic info you have stated. Indeed they would of only needed merchant, customer, amount and date.

How have certain Cardmembers not acted in the spirit of the Promotion?
Unfortunately we've identified cases where Cardmembers have been found to have intentionally manipulated transactions in order to obtain additional bonus points. For example, splitting a bill that would normally be paid as one transaction into dozens of smaller transactions.

We will be reviewing all activity covered by the offer to identify cases of suspected misuse. Cardmembers who are found to have acted inappropriately risk forfeiting any points earned through the promotion and/or cancellation of their Membership Rewards account.

Amex performed manual audits of people in the promo. Most probably just on those with larger "hauls".
Reported both on this forum and elsewhere, plus from people I know, people lost points. A number including me however had their supensions lifted.

If numerous small transactions of small payments were identified that could not be justified for legitimate everyday spend[SUP]*

[/SUP]then point fofeiture was likely if audited.

If one had say put through numerous 1 cent transactions on your Telstra bill then it would be pretty hard to justify as "legitimate everyday spend", or at least once the amended T&C came out.

I dm'd VA on twitter about not receiving any offers or alerts to my email, despite making sure correct email, spam settings etc

They said they will pass my thoughts on.

No wonder I've gone from Platinum to Gold to Silver and by June will be red...

There seems to be a broken record on this thread.

So for some reason i had it in my head that the 3,000 velocity point will post directly to Velocity account so was keeping an eye out there. Turns out they obviously post to the Amex first, checked my account earlier and the 3,000 points are in Amex and would imagine at statement end they will sweep across with all the others.

Ok Second Status Update:

As mentioned in my ( I received offer) first update my 3000 points posted as soon as my 5th transaction posted (this was about 2 days after spend)

My wife (who did not receive offer) has just had 6 transactions post but no 3000 bonus points posted. So it would seem that you will only get the points if you were sent the offer (Though, as noted earlier in the thread, points can take up to 8-10 weeks to post and so may still arrive). Others may have a different experience.
