"Bonus Confirmed Complimentary Upgrade"?

(oh and I'm a BIS re-qual as well, it's nice to see VA sharing the love, although simongr got one too and he didn't re-qualify. They should give it to me instead :P)

If there was a way to gift them I would have been more than happy to give away the three that I now have.

$200 happy hour, half price point upgrades all year, another free upgrade credit to WP and a free one to SG...I just can't help but wonder why.

Good for those with the status though!

I'm a status matched Plat. Over the w/e, I requalified Plat with my day trip to Ool, logged into my account today and saw that I had a "Bonus Confirmed Complimentary Upgrade"....I thought this was an early reward for requalifying Plat but I see everyone else here has got it as well. I hope I still get my 4 complimentary upgrades at my anniversay at the end of this month.

On a separate note, can anyone explain why I only got 360 base miles for Syd - Ool when I got 425 base miles for Syd - Ool 2 weeks ago:?::confused:

Earn on DJ is still based on dollar spend. If you paid more for the flight, you'll earn more points. It's a little annoying really, but with the WP multiplier it makes it a little more tolerable (would be great if they did mileage and minimum points still though for some segments).

I believe the points are based on the fare paid (5 points per $1), not distance traveled :)

EDIT: Need to work on my WPM apparently, drewbles beat me to it.

Looks like the "Surprise & Delight" department at Virgin decided all Golds needed a free domestic upgrade , and someone probably said - better give an extra one to the Platinums as well, so they don't whinge?

Only if traveling with you though? if not then I have three upgrades to give away.

The upgrades, I understand, can be used to upgrade any flight, you don't need to be flying. I have a flight you can upgrade ;) The bonus will let me upgrade one way, would be nice to upgrade the other way.

Wouldn't you use these to upgrade your own flights, or do you only book Business to start with.

I'm loving all the discounts on VA J (booked MEL-SYD and MEL-BNE J returns with the $200 happy hour a few weeks ago) but all this discounting is hardly making VA J an exclusive, aspirational product. I look at their full price J (which continues to decrease) and just laugh at the price as I think 'I'll be able to get that much cheaper somehow!'. Remember when you could points + pay for 6,900? I used to look at MEL-CNS which was $1,200 each way in J and wish I could afford it. Now it's only $750 and with happy hours, mistake pricing, 2-4-1 CC flight offers, half-price upgrades I now think 'I'll get it for half that!'

J for leisure flyers like me should be a very special treat, something you save up ages for, not something that is dangled in front of you in various forms on a weekly basis.

Yup, that is the explanation:oops:! A bit embarassing that a DJ plat didn't know that!!

true but i think it's all aimed at sucking as much 'cream' out of QF's domestic J as they can - forget about market share just transfer as much of the profitable business as they can get across to VA. it's in line with the game change strategy to diversify away from leisure travel i think.

Gotta be travelling with them, can't gift the upgrade to others unfortunately.

Interesting point, but i'll take what I'm offered. I have seldom flown VA Domestic whY as a result of the complimentary upgrade offer, and the 6900 points plus pay deal (may MEL-PER-MEL flights with that one!).

I'm sure it's designed to get people on-board, so to speak, and these deals *will* dry up as the move to Sabre happens, and other things develop.

Bottom line: enjoy them whilst you can, as they will go :)

Nothing compares to AA's (up) 3 flight segments one way Exec Plat upgrades - they are given 4 per year.

I am not at Exec Plat level but was the beneficiary of one of these for NRT-LAX-DEN

Take a peek in the cheap domestic flights thread and you will find that PER-HBA is still going for 6900 plus $150 dollars!!

I do wonder about the J product though, seems VA are really trying hard to give it away (so to speak!) at the moment...

SWMBO and I both received a bonus 'comp' - expiry 15th Aug 2013.

Ahh SWU's. They are so nice. I make much use of them (as I have people who owe me favours, and they are repaid in SWU's; I make a booking confirming that the SWU class is available (it's just a fare bucket), ring friends and ask them to call the ex plat desk, and voila! I'm in F!).

Although remember the 'unlimited complimentary upgrades to F' for ex plat's. There's a reason that most US F services are cough :)

ORLY? I may just have to start doing MEL-HBA-PER and vv then ;)
