Bonza Airline Discussion

An new article in the guardian has the Bonza boss saying ‘perhaps next year’ or something like that.

So that means, it will be next year. I’ll take a punt and say Q2. Would be burning considerable cash having it sit idle however for another 6-12 months. Rough sort of numbers, 200 Bonza employees at an average salary wage, plus aircraft leasing costs for 4/5 aircraft, that’s 30m a year, let alone the other costs associated with running airlines.

URGH what a pain. I want jaunts dammit!

Interesting comment from the CEO in an interview yesterday. Sounds like still a long way to go so the language he hinted about regarding next year seems more likely.

We are working our way through a very long to-do list but progress is ongoing,” Mr Jordan said.

Note that 777 Partners (owners of Bonza) have just purchased strategic stake in Melbourne Victory. So the sponsorship isn’t a coincidence.

A private investment firm, 777 Partners has quickly built a multi-club network featuring some of the most historic football clubs in the world, including Genoa C.F.C. in Italy, Vasco da Gama in Brazil, Standard de Liege in Belgium and Red Star FC in France, as well as a significant minority stake in Sevilla FC in Spain.

In today's open letter, Bonza also mentioned that the only place to book a ticket with the airline will be on the "Fly Bonza" app.

Hi, Bonza has never advised bookings would not be available via travel agents? Their travel agent portal was launched last Thursday to the trade.

I wonder if this is the start of the CASA proving flights?

Hi Saab34,
My reasoning being 346 innocent people who lost their lives.
Recent article from Reuters:
The deal capped a 21-month investigation into the design and development of the 737 MAX following the deadly crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia in 2018 and 2019.

Boeing did not disclose key details to the FAA of a safety system called MCAS, which was linked to both fatal crashes and designed to help counter a tendency of the MAX to pitch up. "Had Boeing not committed its crime" pilots in Ethiopia and Indonesia would have "received training adequate to respond to the MCAS activation that occurred on both aircrafts," O'Connor ruled.

The crashes, which have cost Boeing more than $20 billion in compensation, production costs, and fines, and led to a 20-month grounding for the best-selling plane, prompted Congress to pass legislation reforming FAA airplane certification.

Boeing wants Congress to waive a December deadline imposed by the legislation for the FAA to certify the MAX 7 and MAX 10. After that date, all planes must have modern coughpit alerting systems, which the 737 planes do not have.

Last month, Boeing paid $200 million to settle Securities and Exchange Commission charges it misled investors about the MAX.

Still seems a bit tight getting it away this calendar year, don’t forget CASA closes down like most agencies mid December and don’t really ramp up until mid Jan.

I don’t think they will start selling tickets until they get approval, so could be 1-2 weeks of ticket selling before starting especially if they want to start December. Shouldn’t be an issue trying to fill aircraft this festive season.
