It's so absurd. Are the staff supposed to wait around?

Clowning around for weeks or months with some fantasy future for airline is as you say, absurd.
So what was the scenario with VA VA....ha when they went bust, were the staff left with nothing as they didn't go into liquidation.
Or did they get some sort of handouts due to the time be covid blah?
VA went thru months before officially being rescued by Bain.

Virgin employees got the Job Keeper payments. When they came off, the business was stood up in size so everyone went back to work. Aside from those made redundant, wasn’t a whole lot that were made to sit on the sidelines without pay.

Would have been a different story if they went into administration without the pandemic assistance, many more employees would have felt much more financial pain. Virgin head heading for administration regardless, the pandemic payments made the employees lives much easier vs what might have happened.
 
Anyway they said their disputes team have specifically been told they can't provide chargeback disputes for Bonza, and the only recourse is to call the creditors line with the administrators.
That makes sense to me. If a pax could somehow magically extract money from bonza, they would be receiving a preference over other unsecured creditors, which is not pukka.
 
Ubank - It was on a Visa card though it was a debit card not a credit card.
You can still do chargeback on debit card transactions, clearly Ubank (which is apart of NAB) doesn't want to entertain it.

Could that sustain an unsubsidised air route to anywhere?
Yes, pre Covid they used to have weekly flights to Bali. They were originally operated by Skywest on F100s and then when that became Virgin Australia they continued the route for a bit using VARA before switching to a 737 which operated DPS-PHE-DPS using an aircraft that would otherwise sit on the ground in DPS. They area whilst not having a high local population had a lot of FIFO workers from the nearby mines which is why the route existed and that the airport is an international one.
 
Maybe a few million dollars for someone looking to setup a new airline, and can gain access to new 737Maxs quickly (not easy).

Don't think there is much benefit to existing airlines these days given newish industrial laws.
 
I think its sad that Bonza has gone. We need more pioneering aviation companies for regional and mainline routes to ensure a competitive general aviation market. For me Bonza took on too much with too little. Slower more sustainable growth could work. I hope that this is not the death nail to more competition and expansion in the Australian Avation industry.
