Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

I just spoke to Perth orperations and they say it is probably infants not children, they will call me back within the hour. How old is the child Shane?

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

I think MEL_traveller is on to it.

As I assume all the bookings have their own PNR it will appear as if the child is travelling by themselves. Are the PNR's linked Shanye2233? Are you sure they aren't just saying the children can't travel by themselves?

I can't believe it is 2 weeks out from travel and you don't have travel insurance yet, that is just amazing.

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

The ticket I inquired about his my wife and child aged 4 and was told no children allowed on board in business class or first class on the 777-300 the seating is not safe for children . Also bkk confirmed this. My other daughter is on her own ticket aged 2 . This policy is not written anywhere and if they cancel my ticket I will lose thousands of dollars

I have yet to contact us airways

Infants are no problem. My friends travelled with an infant on the 77W, they were all actually upgraded from J to F.

MEL_Travellers explanation sounds the most likely...everyone having their own PNR and therefore it looks like children are travelling alone. Unaccompanied minors have to be travelling on an adult published fare.

I'm sure this can be fixed up although I'd be surprised if the PNRs weren't already linked given how often Shanye talks to the TG office! Perhaps this has to be done by US though...TG won't touch the booking as usual.

yeah I'm not sure about this it was just a guess - I think Shanye had two or three accounts - I can't recall now.

however - I am wondering if all the messages shanye received in the earlier months advising of a 'schedule change' and to contact US airways were not actually schedule changes but were in regards to the infant?

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

No I had schedule changes . It told me a flight changed from 3.25 to 3.55. Thai airways says this plane and only tthis plane has a no children policy in J and F the 777-300. Being on separate PNR has nothing to do with it every location I have called days no worried then I say are you sure children are allowed on that flight they say no the seats are not safe for children.

How can the airline sell the tickets online but can't allow passengers to board ?

sorry now im on the pc its alot easier than on the phone. Here's the deal i rang thai just to confirm some seats and then i got transferred to julie in the sydney office after speaking for a while i asked about toys for the kids on the way as the website stated toys. Then said she oh hang on im sure there is no children allowed on 777-300 in business or first class. I said WHAT ! I have been in contact with your office many time you never menstioned it n the past she said let me call my head office and double check and il get back to you. She rang back and said sorry there is no children allowed you have to call us airways. I asked cant you just put me in Y she said no call us airways, I said why cant you move me into Y because us airways issued the ticket you have to call them and maybe they can get you on another flight to maybe milan or rome kids are allowed in that class on those aircrafts.

Now i know if i call us airways they will see where im going and what i paid and cancell everything. I booked this in october and im leaving on the 18th of may . Just over two weeks and this is what im hit with.

I was planning on using my travel insurance with citibank platinum i have already contacted them. Remember i have never been out of the country i just paid $800 for all passports so im new at this.

im going to try to call us airways and hoepfully they just throw my wife into Y with the kids for that flight.

actually i have found a reference on FT in this thread (post #276) - TG not accepting infants for travel in business class on the 77W: THAI 77W when and where? - Page 19 - FlyerTalk Forums

but that seems to indicate it is temporary (this was back in 2011) and the very next post seems to indicate that rule was abolished! Maybe it is back...??

It may be an issue to do with oxygen - or - more likely - the herringbone seating which will most likely have an airbag for additional safety. I don't think the airbag is compatible with an infant. However - that begs the question of how Virgin Atlantic and Air NZ (or even CX) handle the same situation... unless they have special arrangements...

shanye - we are all waiting to see what US says!

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

No infants kids are fine, just got off the phone from Thai, relates to Jet airways leased aircraft only plying the BKK- CDG route and also Tokyo.

the 2 year old has a separate seat? If not they will be classified as an infant.

what are your options?

Yes US could downgrade that leg. Or they could re-route you via another city utilising a 747. but that might get them started on the ticket - but I think they wold overlook any irregularities at this stage.

They won't have to throw the whole ticket out - they can just work with the affected segments and add those to the ticket. This is not something you have voluntarily requested, so they should go out of their way to assist you.

Will they pay for a full fare on another carrier? I don't think so. If they do, that might be a solution. But evidence over on FT suggests you could be out of luck (someone over there had a change of aircraft and no F, and US didn't offer to rebook on another carrier... they just cancelled the ticket).

Alternatively - just turn up at the airport and see what happens. If you are downgraded to economy, I would be speaking to the First check-in at BKK and making arrangements that the cabin manager is made aware of the involuntary downgrade, and that they should allow you to sit in the J cabin during non-critical phases of flight (if there are seats available).

It's a tough call. sorry to hear about it.

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

Here's my options . I call US airways tell them i have had a call from TG with the segment bkk-cdg and it needs to be downgraded from J to Y , and they check availability which i have and then there's no problem just one less leg in J . I still have my first class ticket. OR us airways says we have to cancell the whole ticket and start again and then i mention how i have booked and paid for things two week before i have to leave it your responsibility to have informed me of any changes .The flights currently i have booked is SYD-BKK-CDG-ZAG-FRA-YYZ-LAX-NRT-AKL-SYD . I have a 30 hour stop-over in paris and then two weeks stop over in zagreb. Then destination is LAX for two more weeks the rest of the flights are just connections.

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

US Airways says there's no availability on that flight in Y but aeroplan is showing 4 + seats. Its 19th May bkk-cdg 12.05am

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

Just wanted to say I feel terrible for you Shanye, no one wishes this kind of stress upon anyone particular only 2 weeks out.

Perhaps make US Airways look for the Y seats? Long Sell?

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

why does aeroplan show the availability but the agent can not something is wrong here.

Blockage.

Like seeing LH F on aeroplane/ANA or another search engine, but US not seeing it....

Ok - I have checked everything - they are right -there is NO availability in Y class according to ANA (which is more reliable than Aeroplan).

I have also checked ALL connecting services - via Istanbul, Copenhagen, Munich, Vienna - nothing.

However - I have found the following that can get you there - BUT it would mean splitting the party and travelling separately.

There is an Egyptair flight - BKK-Cairo, connecting to Paris - all on the 19th. It departs less than an hour after the Thai flight. It is operated by a 777 (full flat seats in business class) followed by an A330 (angled lie flats) to Paris.

The details:

19 May MS 961 BKK-CAI 0050-0540

connecting to

19 May MS799 CAI-CDG 0935-1425

If you are worried about splitting up the family - there are actually 4 seats available on the BKK-CAI-CDG leg in business class according to ANA...

US might quite rightly deny responsibility for the booking of infants on the 77W - as far as I can see there are no stated restrictions anywhere. This might be something which they could argue is beyond their control. However - I think they should work with you to make changes to the tickets free of charge.

I can't think of reason US would block Y class seats from Asia - Europe!

More likely an inexperienced agent freaked out by a complex situation - keep calling!

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

the other thing - if it IS because of the airbag (not allowing an infant in business class) then perhaps everything should just be left as is for TG to sort out - they could allow the infant and child to be swapped for that leg of the journey, so the infant was in F (no airbags i don't think... although I'm not sure about oxygen masks...)

its a case of no availability I'm afraid. As I mentioned above, there is zip leaving bkk in just about all classes to Europe (except to MUC, but that flight does not connect to Paris and would require an overnight in MUC).

ANA is a better booking tool - much less phantom availability than either AC or UA.

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

I do not have a infant travelling with me the agent has tried swapping the flights for the BKK-CAI-CDG but needs a supervisor for some reason. Thank you for finding the flights for me , fingers crossed
