I have booked mrsalien a J reward flight in a few weeks. jr alien is also coming along and seated with mrs alien. jr alien is <2 so is a lap child.

I am travelling in Y as it is a work trip although I am allowed to upgrade with my own points. I am not able to request an upgrade online as there are no seats left. Flight stats is showing J/9, C/8, D/1, I/0 and U/0. The plane is currently scheduled as a 763 with 30 in J. The good folk at QF cust serv booked mrs alien into 5J and myself into 23J so that I can help during the flight.

My question is, will QF release more seats for upgrade or do I have to wait until the QC and request an ODU? If I wait what are my chances of getting it. the flight is PER-MEL and a lunchtime departure.

BTW I am PS but I have enough booking in the QF system to take me to SG.

U class is what is required.

Do you have Qantas club access? If so, an on departure upgrade may be available.

If you An E/F subscription you can seat an alert that will send you an email if U class becomes available.

thanks Serfty,

I don't have a QC membership, but I am hoping that mrsalien will be able to guest me in. If that fails I have a fair few QC passes that I can use. I dont have an EF membership either so I will just keep checking.

Based on the info here from the QF site, mrsalien should be able to guest you in. Once inside you'll be able to request an ODU (and good luck with that, I've never requested one, so I have no idea what the odds may be).

Earlier this year I was wanting to travel from SYD to MEL on a award ticket. For quite a while there were no U Class on any flights on the morning I wanted to travel. Then about 3 or 4 days before I wanted to travel, U class started showing availability for several of the flights. Not sure if this is normal, but it might pay to keep checking back every now and again.

Also if you check in via the next-gen kiosks at the airport then sometimes a "upgrade with points" option will appear. If that doesn't then try for the Qantas club as mentioned before.
