I have been looking at seat availability to book a return trip to HK and Tokyo next year using my points for either first or business class travel. This is through the QF website using the Qantas & Partner Classic Awards.

Does anyone know if you can you book with other oneworld airlines on the Qantas website because at the moment, it only shows Qantas flights. It doesn't show Cathay or JAL etc.

Take for example, if there is no direct flight available between Sydney and Hong Kong with Qantas. How do I go about enquiring if there is availability on Cathay or if there are seats if I took an indirect route by flying Qantas to Singapore, then Cathay to HK etc.... does the Qantas website give me these options or is the best way for me to call Qantas directly?

I am pretty sure that there is a surcharge if I make an award booking through the customer operator. When I looked at flights between HK and Tokyo, Qantas showed me flights going back to Oz then Japan. I would've thought that the website would've shown Cathay or JAL flights direct between HK and Tokyo?

I am sorry if this has been asked before. Any expert advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Cathay and JAL flights do not show up in the QF award booking engine. To book these you need to call QF and pay the 2,500 pt award booking fee.

If you want to do some homework online before calling QF to find suitable dates, at least for Cathay flights, join Cathay's Asia Miles program (free of charge) and you can then look for availablity through that, even with a 0 pts balance. Not sure how to go about for JAL though.
