Boris Johnson diagnosed with COVID-19

Interesting article in the New York Times on the Cytokine Storm : The Coronavirus Patients Betrayed by Their Own Immune Systems

And a raging immune system is what people with auto immune illnesses (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, hashimotos etc etc) deal with every day except the immune system battles our own bodies and not a virus or bacteria.

Plaquenil - hydroxychloroquine - 'anti malarials' - take a while to have impact. Corticosteroids try manage the after effects.

Boris must beat this.

I am also concerned for his partner and unborn baby, ( and the rest of his family).
Yes. It seems she doesn't want to be tested. We can just hope that the Johnson family celebrate a wonderful Christmas together.

She said she had been in bed for a week with symptoms. It’s a difficult situation that’s for sure.

To an extent so long as you are isolating the test itself doesn't really matter.
You stay at home either way and if it gets worse you go to hospital

Makes sense. Only thing is that doesn’t help epidemiologists track the disease.

I want to know if he got special treatment. Interferon or Recombinant Interferon alfa-2B?
Normally Covid ICU and respiration - your chances are about 50-50 of dying. That he went so long suggests the Russian tablets and antihistamine were not immediately prescribed. The claimed 24 hour turnaround was amazing. If ARDS like , an bit of ECMO as well?

I believe that in the UK that for a patient admitted to ICU but who does not go onto a ventilator within 24 hours of doing so (even if they later do) has a 83% recovery rate.

I believe that he only was only on oxygen and that neither a respirator or ventilator were used.

I also understand that with Boris that they were being additionally careful in case he suddenly crashed and needed to to go on a ventilator.

Yes they do. It is currently the foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab.

It isn't a term used in a way that most people would think, such as the "Designated Survivor" in the US where a selected member of the Presidential secession is kept away from large meetings where the others on the list are be (eg State of the Union).

The "Designated Survivor", as used in the UK, is more akin to what Australia uses as Deputy Prime Minister and is only used when the Prime Minister is incapacitated.

Absolutely no chance.
He wasn’t ventilated at all never mind ECMO which is weeks long therapy for this.
