I had a $65 fare late last year from the Hilton - 4am and I wasn't paying attention until I saw us going past Lang Park:mad:

But for the detour it probably would have been around $55.

From the Hilton at 4.00am to the airport down Elizabeth st then thru the valley and kingsford smith drive should have been approx $30 + or - a couple of $$. Has cost me $55 - $60 during peak hour. They have got the traffic lights in fairly good sunc at that hour of the morning

Not really, at 4AM its a $6 flagfall, and $2.16 per km for 17km.

I new about the flagfall and all, but had no choice but to catch a cab at that time.

The point is I was not watching and I realised now he took off down Edward St then went South past the Botanic gardens and accessed the motorway way using the Alice St entrance.:evil:

That added over 5Km to the trip.

It was not until passing Suncorp Stadium on the inner city Bypass that I realised!

I was not a happy camper!

Understandable, the quality of Taxis in Brisbane has gone downhill over the years, I heard quite a few reports of tolls being charged in the airport link tunnel to taxi customers when it was in a free trial mode.

I suppose if someone really wanted to, you could mass produce forgeries, then create a dirt cheap black market selling these tickets for rock bottom prices. Then, we're going to get ads from Airtrain, "Make sure you have a genuine Airtrain ticket!"

That market could be verrrry lucrative. I know for myself my annual air train spend is over a grand.

I imagine there's got to be an AFF'er on here who owns a business with an in house "design" team. "This afternoon I need you to knock up a few 1000 of these... pronto" <clicks fingers> ;)

A smart taxi company would provide dedicated taxi pooling zones in the CBD for airport clients.

A much cleverer cookie than me could develop an iPhone app that uses geolocation services to co-ordinate this... provided it hasn't happened already. Does something like this exist in other cities?

There are already airport ranks (eg one on eagle street iirc during Peak hours) ...and there is nothing stopping people coordinating fares. However, seeing all (most?) Are cabcharge or expense rebated, I don't think they really care.

Perhaps a regular scheduled tourist service would be better than taking a punt at the rank, adds peace of mind also. Similar to Melbourne and Auckland's sky and air bus service. My observations are that most cab drivers already congregate at hotels hoping to catch the early morning flyer. That's certainly the case at the Stamford and Royal on the Park. There used to be a maxi taxi driver that would do the rounds of the hotels picking up pax and charging them a flat rate of $10 each. He had 8 the day my colleague jumped on board. So he made roughly $30 more than the standard fare ($50). A bus service isn't required as taxi's can cover this sector easily.

I've thought about developing the app. However, it has the potential for misuse and I'm not sure a female travelling alone would want to broadcast their location.

Living near Caxton st, Airport link is my preferred choice as there are no traffic lights in the tunnel. I once missed my alarm and woke up at 6:26am, flight was at 7am, cab was called, made it like a boss. Albeit with final boarding call flashing as I entered the terminal. Turns out I wasn't last to board and push back was 7:10am. The cost was $48 including the toll.

Which route did they go from Caxton St?
I assume onto icb at kelvin grove and then onto airport link near Bowen hills... but interested if they took a different route.

He took the right off Caxton st (heading towards the stadium) on to the icb then onto airport link near Bowen hills. Absolute dream run that day thankfully.

Resurrecting this one last time.

Are there gates or people checking tickets at the international and domestic terminals?

Correct.

Funny thing happened today. I got in to BNE airport at 5:45pm and I would have missed the 5:58pm airtrain to the city (not that I wanted to be on it anyway) and just made the 6:00pm T-Bus to DFO. At ~6:40pm I got on to the 6:29pm airtrain to the city at Eagle Junction and got off at Central and paid nothing for the privilege for using the same train the people got on to at the airport.

Makes no sense to me but I will keep doing anything I can to avoid paying this rort....

The special fares to or from the airport only apply if you take the train to or from those stations. If you commute between any two non-airport train stations there is no extra charge on top of a normal fare.

The 369 Mitchelton Bus.

I do my 9 trips for the week by Friday morning so Friday afternoons trip to airport via DFO and Sunday's trip back via DFO cost nothing. Worse case scenario and they would be ~$3.50 each way off-peak which is much better than paying that rort.

Only problem is I spend an extra 30 minutes each way. Not such a big deal.
