Hi. Could you advise me the cost of a train ticket from Sth Brisbane to Domestic Airport station? Also is there a surcharge at the airport station when I get there? thanks

The price of the new train fares from City stations to airport are $15. No surcharge at the airport.

I believe if you book the train ticket on the internet then the price is $13.50 but I am not sure if this is airport-city only or both ways. Anyway you can also purchase the green paper/cardboard airtrain tickets for ~$13.50 from most hotels in the CBD, Qantas Travel and some newsagents.

Online sale is only ex-Airport, but is a very good way of getting a cheap return on the train (circa $12.25 each way).

Also, due to a quirk [cough - ripoff] with Airtrain, South Brisbane station to Airport is $15, whereas if you were about a Km further down the line at the nearby SouthBank station - then the fare would be $18.90 and the $13.50 tickets don't apply.

I thought that was the case the last time I looked online.

Still the airtrain is $27 return where as Coachtrans is now $30 return. Both have had a sizeable increase in <3 years with airtrain fares due to increase again in January 2012. I wish my salary increased this much and this often.

Thanks for the information. I booked a Return Train Transfer Airport to Roma Street at Brisbane's Airtrain - Airport, CBD & Gold Coast Transfers The cost was $25.20 AU

Thank you to John and Mal for your answers. I have not been to BNE for some time and will be there this Sat morning getting the Airtrain from airport to Fort Valley for 2 hours and then to Sth Bris for 2 hours and then back to airport. Would a return to Sth Bris ticket from airport be best option and then I need to buy a separate single ticket from Fort Vly to Sth Bris ?...or the return ticket covers it all? Also my son is 4 years old...does he need a ticket on the Translink ride form Fort Vly to Sth Bris leg as I know its free on Airtrain

Many thanks

If you are flying into Brisbane, and intend to take the train, you are best off paying online for the discount. When you arrive at the AirTrain station you will get two tickets:

* A standard trankslink ticket for your forward journey.
* A cardboard preprinted return ticket.

The paper ticket for your forward journey, that is valid for two hours from the time you got your ticket. The expiry time will be printed on the paper ticket. You can reuse this ticket until the expiry time printed on your ticket.

While AirTrain do have a different fare structure based on distance, when you get the paper ticket at the airport, you will get a standard Zone 1 - 2 ticket from the Airport, this is valid is far as Yeerongpilly on the Beenleigh line, ... despite AirTrain actually having a different fare structure, you will get the same thing printed on your ticket if you ask for Central, South Brisbane, South Bank, Yeerongpilly etc.

The cardboard return ticket will be printed as saying that it only valid from South Brisbane and the City Stations.

The translink fare structure only enables you to buy a single ticket, hence your will receive a preprinted cardboard ticket. If you are visiting Brisbane for a period of time, get yourself a go-card, as the fares are considerably cheaper using a go-card (except to the airport). Also if you use go-card more then 10 times in a week (Monday - Sunday), subsequent trips are half price (this includes to the airport).

If your outbound ticket from the airport expires then it will cost $3.90 for single paper ticket from Fortitude Valley to Sth Brisbane or if you have Go card it will cost $2.26 as it is off-peak.

I believe train travel is free for children under 5 years of age.
