Well, I eat meat, so yeah, slight problem there.

Moreover to that, where the hell did Brisvegas ever come from? I know that the Hilton BNE had a small bar thing with pokies and the like and I think that was called Brisvegas. We also have a nice, compact casino in the city (nothing near the huge, elaborate and ever-competing edifices in MEL and SYD), but nothing to write home about. And I don't think BNE would be near anywhere supplying nor catering for the top gamblers in AU let alone on the Eastern seaboard. So what gives with the name?

Brisbanite, Melbournian, Adelaidean, Perthite (or Perthean?), Canberrean.....what about people from Sydney, Darwin and Hobart? Sydneysider seems a bit odd-ish. Darwin is difficult without thinking about the bad puns with people who enjoy killing themselves.


I should add to the stirred melting pot that big thanks to JohnK for organising these drinks monthly.

Radio station B105 started the Brisvegas fame back in the late 1990s.

I think it was about 1997-1998.

For the record there will also be a Brisbane AFL night organised sometime in June/July. I would like to see the Melbournians come up with something similar. Yes you heard it here first in the Brisbane drinks thread....

Now that is something I am interested in attending. Although it sounds like I won't be able to sit in my normal seats...the Qld Cricketers Club seats

Yeah, we got taken to the cleaners real bad. Absolutely disgraceful.

I was in MEL that day, lucky I didn't hint to anyone about coming from BNE otherwise I probably would have copped a mighty fine kicking with all the other colours flying around.

It is 3 months away and that is a long time in Australian rules. Also I think Brisbane plays a lot better at the Gabba than when travelling down to Voctoria.

A few more people have confirmed coming to the next drinks night. Perhaps we should have a special guest of honour at all Brisbane drinks nights. How about Angelina Jolie?
