Bucket List Flight - SYD-LHR

If you are connecting onwards on LH, OS or LX you’ll get to use the lounge. Even if you’re starting in ZRH but connecting later that day to LH F you’ll get the F lounge.

No onward flights

The FCT is pretty much same same as the main terminal, except you’re guaranteed a car to your plane. But the views are awful… a brick wall and a car park :( The LH F lounges in the main terminal I find much more spacious. Like the difference between LH F and J… Senator lounges are like the QFi J dungeon in MEL by comparison!

That's OK, planes on taxi-ways I've seen heaps before. 🙂. Hmmm... I wonder if I arrive early and get 'lost', I could check in and go to the main terminal F lounge(s) and then verdammt, I'm in the wrong place and need to get to the FCT?

I had the choice of LX to ZRH and LH from FRA or vice-versa. Think (hope) I've made the right one.

I don’t know how you’d ‘leave’ the terminal once in? I think you’d have to go back through passport control. It’s not so much watching planes on taxi ways, but when an LH 74-8 is parked right under your seat about 10 metres away it is quite impressive!

I think your flight pattern/choice is as good as any!

^ Yes I managed to luck-out with a booking at The Fat Duck on my wife’s birthday in 2018 … and it was an exciting experience. Fried rice on EK gets nowhere near it!
Forget Fat Duck, been there done that. Theatrical experience. L’Enclume with Simon Rogan is the go these days!

EK with the shower and the Hennessy Paradis Cognac gets my vote. On landing how about Hélène Darroze at The Connaught... or if you head upriver Alain Roux over Duck shenanigans any day!

We did both in 2018, the quacker on the better half's birthday & the swamp-house the day before ... we thought the quacker was slightly more enjoyable for the food even setting aside the theatrics, the swamp-house was nice but we've had at least the same if not better at a few places around Sydney. However the quacker is limited in terms of variation & I'm not sure you'd go back, whereas the swamp-house you could go five days in a row & not necessarily have the same thing again ... plus reservations are a lot easier at the swamp-house.

Of course this is sample-of-one in each case, so statistically-speaking is irrelevant by itself. :)

OK time for an update. So I have just booked my flights, all in F, for early August (due to work and family issues) and have gone with both Emirates and Qantas.
Scored QF 1/2 between SYD and SIN including an overnight coming home.
EK 380 between SIN and DXB and, hopefully, the game changer suite on the EK 777 between DXB and STN. From the flight history I've reviewed the game changer should be good both ways unless they do an aircraft swap.
All done through Emirates website.

THe "new" ELK 777 F suites are fabulous! Loved DXB-GVA last year. Pity they don't have these on the Australian legs.

Are they actually running the new F into Stanstead again?

Looks like it from checking flightradar24 after reading that article.

I think I have also hit the jackpot with a long layover in Singapore - around 23 hours. Have booked a room at one of the airside hotels, but on reading this article I can access Qantas First, Emirates, British Airways and Qatar lounges.

Check out the '2023 lounge crawl' thread under the meetups area here. Make sure you hit the QR lounge.

Perhaps @JessicaTam might give you some tips in crawling SIN OneWorld lounges 🙂

So I am now back (well have been for a few weeks) and the F trip was amazing, generally :D
Emirates 'game changer' was truly amazing experience - go for the middle seat it is better than a window one. QF1 to Singapore was OK but poor quality seat/entertainment compared to Emirates A380 or 777. Getting used to the sun rising at 4.40am in London, setting after 9pm and landing in Dubai at 1.00am where the temp was 40 degrees Celcius was hard to get used to in a short time span.
I was on QF82 that had the medical diversion to Adelaide which added a few extra hours to the flight. No complaint about how the crew handled the situation and the passenger was handed over to paramedics OK.
But the seat (1A) was on the oldest A380 that came back from 'the desert' and hadn't received any upgrades except the first one (or three upgrades) several years ago. Seat wouldn't swivel (unless done manually after several attempts), IFE didn't work after landing in ADL and no second meal served, not even a cold breakfast option. After two complains to Qantas they finally gave me 5k points in compensation.
