For sure.
The segment tonight was from the pilots association POV.

I still haven't seen/heard anyone talk about what the pilots actually get paid, except for number_6 on FT who posted that a QF A380 pilot (captain) gets around the $400k p.a. mark.
If that is true, that is a massive salary, and from number_6's post, it seems that other A380 pilots are on around the 100k-150k band. Maybe JB can answer that question (but l doubt he would want to talk about his salary in the public...)

Are those other pilots with qantas or other airlines.

Personally, I don't find $400k to be massive given the level of responsibility. But that's just me.

Base hourly rate on one particular award

"The Qantas Group will be a minority shareholder in the airline and will not use its own brand."

Righto so, there we have it. No QF branding because its not a QF airline, they are simply going to be minority shareholders.
Sounds like JQ all over again. :(

Maybe a shareholder revolt is needed in order for management to show the true figures.

Not too many 12 year A380 captains at any airline.;)

I almost said something about that. I guess I'm just trying to get some perspective on the $400k figure, which I think was an average. To get from no more than $270k to $400k means some pretty good allowances. But then a big chunk of those allowances have to be accommodation and such in away ports. For me, that is part of the cost of doing business, somewhat dodgy to put that into pilots wages, even if it is technically part of their pay.

I agree with the allowances being a tad dodgy, its easy to rattle off figures, and if those figures include compensation for time away from family and home which is what a lot of them are, they should not be included in a "salary" quote IMHO.

Most people on hearing 400K would multiply it by 40 for a lifetimes earning amount and think wow, all pilots are rich, take out the cost of training and time to do the training which is often significant from that lifetime and throw in possible health issues forcing an early retirement, you start to get a better picture why airline pilots are not all members of the local polo club. The only reason I did republish those figures (they are readily available on the net) is to show exactly what pilots earn in the hope it will clarify the situation.

There is now takeover speculation in The Australian.

I'm glad you did. Thanks.

Pilots or cabin crew don't pay for their accommodation.

$400K is not that huge a salary for a senior manager - also only the salary after many years of experience.

Equally it is not a meagre pittance.
