Bushfires 2019/2020!

Either people will be put off by the advisory and all the other international very bad press or, they will keep coming. Just because they did in 2018 may or may not indicate that they will come again in 2020. Those are just my thoughts. Others may disagree so be it.

Small typo - just cross out “not”

Is our local media over amping a little today, given the photos we’ve seen here of Canberra et al?

I thought SA was at the forefront of climate change activism, so should be immune?
That seems to be the simplicity of the thinking, doesn’t it. Australia is deemed to have lagged in climate change thought, and voted in Morrison, so we are being punished, almost immediately, by having these awful fires. And as you say, SA has I think, the most renewable energy but gets punished along with the rest of you lot!

I think the simplistic thinking is that AGW = bushfires.

I learnt yesterday that Koalas breeding season is Sept to Feb and Koalas escape from bushfires by climbing trees. The ones with paw burns are the ones who survive in the canopy who then climb down or the ones who have to climb up. The charred ones were likely burnt and killed while seeking refuge in a tree canopy when it lit up.😭

Just a little :). I got to the point where 168 would have seemed great.

however we do have another day of clean air today - just about to fling open the doors and windows. My usual luck - as soon as I bought an unbelievably expensive air purifier for Ms FM the air cleared up totally! Still I feel happy that I have it for her - who knows what the future will bring.

That’s what I figured too. God I hate the media exaggeration. So hard to get a true benchmark. Let alone reality.

with the purifier you have peace of mind. Can’t fault that.

Yes, quite a lot of that sort of thinking and commenting going around.
But We need to reach middle ground. And accept that even if we reduced carbon emission to ‘zero’ then the climate will still continue to change. But also do our damndest to improve what we are doing to the environment significantly. But also adapt to climate change. And tackle the elephants in the room and not continue to berate the easy targets.

The 330kV lines between Murray and Tumut substations have tripped - likely proactively as fires can cause transmission lines to short to ground. These are the main transmission lines connecting Snowy Hydro to the Grid and also VIC and NSW.
Hopefully with weather in Sydney not too bad, the demand at 1800hrs will be met without need for load shedding.

Flightradar24.com is an interesting site if you want to see where the action is.
TAIP43 (helo) has just passed over my house heading south.
BMBR 137 and 138 are both on the ground at CBR, presumably to get their tanks refreshed.
Other helo activity in the Illawarra also.

Just had a grass fire in Gordon (south Canberra), deliberately lit. Been safely extinguished- honestly what’s wrong with people :(

I just hope they arrest and don’t simply report then release.
