Good friend of mine is originally from the USA and is expecting some sisters to visit in a few weeks. They contacted her a few days ago asking if it was safe to come. She assured them it was :)

If it were Aussies reading that I'd say they'd pretty certainly ignore that warning. Don't agree about the more cautious spider, snake, it's too far, traveller.

I actually suspect the average will go irrespective of the travel advisories.

I still think they will come.
Americans have limited vacation and any travel is likely booked in advance.
Im surprised they are now number 3.
The japanese have dropped way back.

I do take my hat of to the media (rare). I have not seen Koalas referred to as Koala Bears
Though the Aussie media used to call them Koala bears.this from 1939 when they thought Koalas may become extinct because of bushfires.

3 strike teams are being based at Perisher using their Staff Accomodation
Total 12 fire trucks from Fire and Rescue NSW plus a duty commander truck
Some of these fire trucks are from Tamworth, West tamworth, Narrabri, Armidale and Quirindi

The merging of 2 fires has been reported to merge turning into a mega blaze. This is just media hype. They overlook the fact that when they merge it will be the burnt areas that are merging. The firefronts will continue east but wont necessarily turn into something that is larger than the sum of the two.

Just a little bit of journalistic licence. Happens all the time. Why let the facts get in the way of a story.
Really p****s me off.

Which reminded me to go and look at my 2003 after the fires, ‘Certificate of Currency’. It looks like it needs updating.

I am not sure if this is still the case but after one of the big fire events, insurance companies were penalising those who had underinsured. For example if the house was insured for $100K and the insurance assessor deemed it to be worth 20% more, they would only pay out $80K (80% of the total insured). Likewise there were instances of companies saying that a home was overinsured and refusing to pay out the higher amount.

Just noticed that Warney's baggy green is stalled at $525,500 on Pickles auction website.

Assuming he is selling it himself I wonder whether he will assessed as having to pay CGT on it. 😉

I assume that the high flyers that have made large donations will get a tax refund of 45% of the donation if it is made to an approved fund.

For those who wonder if they are adequately insured for their building, here is a calculator : https://sumsure.cordell.com.au/#/products/7/profiles/118
Wouldn’t calculate ours as it said our rebuild cost exceeded 2million. It was quite impressive as it had a lot of details on our house (bathrooms, bedrooms etc). Or maybe a bit creepy :). We definitely are not insured for over 2 million but this is where it shows the disjoint between value and rebuild. I can quite believe our rebuild would be greater than 2 million, but if we sold it as is, we would only get around 2 maybe a bit more and that includes the land.
