I read somewhere it was mostly Australians? I think she was the first to start something when people were keen to help but didn’t know where to do so. I hope it gets shared around all the bushfire areas as it started as one just for NSW.
People from all over the world are contributing

Excellent. Hopefully they are learning a little about Australia but knowing our media it will scare them off from travelling here.
I think overseas people really love our iconic animals and that is motivating them. Everyone seems to know about Koalas and Kangaroos.

What we need is for people to start working together rationally. I am sick of both sides of the climate change argument - give them half a chance and they would be blowing each other up.

why can’t we agree on some middle ground and work to change that instead of this “I am so much more intelligent than you and I know I am right”

plastics are causing huge pollution of the ocean
Landfill is overflowing
Big cities are choking on emissions

is there anyone who disagrees with that and doesn’t think it would be a good thing to work to change?
When you see how relatively quickly we have adapted to taking our own bags with us; being far more aware of the dreadful buildup of plastic polluting oceans so encouraging us to cut way down on our use of packaging etc; councils now distributing compost bins and accepting food waste. They are all small steps but if we all try to be more mindful of waste, energy use, water, petrol, surely the planet has to be better off even if you don't believe in climate change. I fear for the world my grandchildren will inhabit and they can point to us frittering away resources. PS I have been pondering over the last dreadful weeks - we in Victoria have a stonking great desal plant which is mouldering away at enormous cost (don't get me started...) why isnt water being produced so that dams can be replenished and stock watered as part of the rebuild process?

NSW is going to ramp it’s desal plant. They do cost a lot of energy though.
And, apropos of nothing, people in Thailand are being told to start saving water because a lot of areas are in drought there too.

At last some of the nut jobs lighting these fires are being prosecuted. It wasn’t all lightning strikes.
The 79 year old who lit several fires last week in SA is being detained under the Mental Health Act due to Alzheimer’s. My thinking is that anyone who lights a fire in these situations can’t be right in the head and they should all be detained but nope, some were just reported and let to run amok.

The amount of money being donated is amazing. $30 million from the Paul Ramsay foundation, $5 million from Crown/Packer, Andrew Forrest is expected to make a big donation, million dollar donations are dime a dozen!

I just hope it gets to where it needs to go and doesn’t end up in government coffers being frittered away. I’d actually like Twiggy to manage all the money.
I remember not so long ago lots of big donations pledged for Notre Dame that have been slow to materialise. This is a chance for Australians to show they are good to their word.

The money is apparently going inter alia, to the Red Cross, Vinnies, various foundations such as Forrest's and other millionaires/billionaires etc as mentioned.
There are many agencies who are adept at managing these things.

Some of course is going to the various RFS type State bodies which are govt organisations. They should have disinterested people helping, (and by disinterested, I mean unbiased. I know some people don't know the difference between uninterested and disinterested).

I feel very confident they will be delivered - all the people pledging have a pretty long history of philanthropy.

A little OT but worthwhile mentioning.
We are going to LA next week and have booked an Airbnb. I just received a message from the owner in the USA asking if we were affected by the bushfires (we are not except for the smoke everyone has) and offering us to check in days earlier if we needed to, free of charge.
What a legend she is !!

Perisher apparently are using their big snow makers to pump out water to try and keep the area around them damp.

3 strike teams are being based at Perisher using their Staff Accomodation
Total 12 fire trucks from Fire and Rescue NSW plus a duty commander truck
Some of these fire trucks are from Tamworth, West tamworth, Narrabri, Armidale and Quirindi

The merging of 2 fires has been reported to merge turning into a mega blaze. This is just media hype. They overlook the fact that when they merge it will be the burnt areas that are merging. The firefronts will continue east but wont necessarily turn into something that is larger than the sum of the two.

Would be nice if these people get a lifetime season pass.

Nowhere does it say don't come to Aus
Only exercise increased caution.

It did say "read the entire travel advisory" on the first line

Koala petting still available in Zoos.
