Business Lounges closed 26 December 2012 to 6 January 2013

For all I care they could of closed the lounge so Silvio Berlusconi could hold a orgy with QF cabin crew.

I mean, who gives a damn why? They closed the lounge, they gave an alternative lounge, and it was for a very short period of time. Why do people care so much about the "real reason" behind the closure, move on!

QF can state what it likes. Whether it is believable is another matter.

I don't understand how you don't see this as being a slippery slope? Fib about maintenance now, something more serious later on?

I suspect in some people's minds this brings back thoughts about any time access (dropped due to lounge over crowding and followed by discounts on lounge access) or perhaps dropping QP access to BA lounges (it's all BA's fault and we will fix it soon - followed by many tumbleweed moments) or perhaps "we're building a new F lounge in SIN" (followed by the dropping of an F lounge in SIN) - without evidence that QF are doing what they are saying people believe that what QF say is not believable.

It was actually quite a long closure - almost 2 weeks... and if the J-lounges are quiet why not close them at anytime and offer an alternative?

I've been in the SYD DOM J-lounge many times awaiting the last SYD-MEL flight. Sometimes there are less than 10 people in there in the end. So why not close that J-lounge an hour early? And why not close all other J-lounges at quiet times? And why even bother telling people?

This sure is something to get a bit upset about! How Qantas handled this whole matter was pretty poor. It was very badly communicated at the very least.

Pretty sure I asked earlier in the thread if Qantas had closed the lounges before like this and the answer was no.

So since Qantas have done it once, it may set a precedent for other times

Sunday's are not busy in the J lounges ? So let's close at 6pm instead of 9pm

etc etc

OK, enough, I will chime in and say there has been work at various lounges done in alignment with the announcement of cabin improvements on some aircraft, although they haven't worked every single day on the lounges they have been doing things. This is the quietest time for Business Class and hence temp closure. And the source, I have a sibling who is a 17 year veteran with QF whom I asked questions of when people are being armchair experts. (lucky there are none of those on AFF isn't it)

I have a family friend who works for Qantas 20years+ and he knows nothing about maintenance.......

Most of the 20000 staff would be in the same boat, now if they were part of the lounge team which only numbers 200 or so excluding contractors.....

Whats happened has happened, it was published on the web, and at the lounges, and in reality there is nothing you can do about it, its Qantas's lounge. Something about worrying about what you control as a saying comes to mind ;)

Depends on where your family friend works I would guess, if it's Port Macquarie then perhaps you might not know. If it's Sydney management then it might have filtered across Qantas Drive.

Agree - My point was that someone coming on here saying they know someone that has worked for QF for 17 years and there was maintenance done and that's the end of the story is well........

Ok then case closed because you said so then ?

people came on here made statements the complete opposite with no checking. Works both ways.

I'm related to the person who is at the airport nearly every day, so after reading the thread thought I would check (and having been at Sydney and Melbourne with in the previous week) for myself and picked up the phone.

i will invite said person (reluctant to post names and titles on a public forum when the regulars don't use real names) on the Good Friday train ride and the magic of upgrades can be explained. Not as magical as sometimes gets explained on AFF.

Yet the only claim of maintenance seems to be some work on some tiles but combine that with the lights being off for various days and no noise.......

So what exact work was done, since everyone else is simply wrong according to you ?

To be honest I didn't ask.

for me it was, has maintenance work been done? Yes. End of story.
