Yesterday afternoon in the Melb QP, 2 women turned up with HJ's burgers and fries and proceeded to scoff them down right near the food service area. Is this acceptable ? normal ? They didn't even finish as they raced off to a flight so they must have been in the Club for all of 10 minutes. I found the whole thing very odd.

I have done this a couple of times in the lounge in BKK when there was practically no food or food variety available (8 visits in 3 months and same food every time). Quick run to the 4th floor to get a very good Pad Thai and back to the lounge to eat it whilst finishing my work, had one person ask where I got it once and he then got some too :D The lounge food can be the same and if you frequent the lounges a lot it can be very boring.

I am really in two minds on this. It's not a "good look" but although I enjoy the lounge food if I needed a feed before a flight (maybe say a 5:30PM flight getting in 7PM with a drive to get home - pretty much my flying profile so thus no meal on board) I would consider it.

I personally do not care what other people eat (except if they eat Pandas or Koalas which is a big no no for me) and if that is what they choose to eat then that is their decision. Just as long as they aren't wearing a hi-viz shirt ;)

Nothing odd about this in my book unless they were chewing with their mouth open.

Are you asking "is it normal that people don't like the lounge food"? Maybe those people have been through the lounges at dud times before- Maybe it is a little nudge at QF.

I have done this on occasion too, particularly in MEL where the food court is so close to the lounge entrance. Mid-afternoon hot food in the QP and J lounge is often pretty underwhelming and sometimes a nice grease burger is just the ticket.

If you have ever had someone take on HJs onto the plane and eat next to you, then you will never ever have a problem with them ever eating anything they want in the lounge again. It's the manners in the plane that I care about. If something happens in the lounge that I don't agree with, I can change seats.

I haven't done HJs (I'm not a fan), but I've purchased noodles from "Wok on Air" in SYD/MEL/BNE many times and taken them into the J lounge to consume with a glass or three of wine. Typically before boarding a flight to CBR at a time which will get me back too late to have dinner.

Having said that, I haven't done it since the J lounge food was "enhanced" and semi-decent evening options became available. But like ozmille said, over time the food options can become very repetitive and sometimes it's nice to be able to order something that resembles a meal.

Over the years I've knocked back a few doner's & Harry's pies while sitting in the T2 QP......when you're in there every week for nearly 4 years a little variety is a good thing.

I've done this at MEL T1 QP... I think it's more a reflection on the MEL QP than anything else, as I find it's pretty rare that there is decent food there (IMHO very much under catered for the number of people who use the lounge), and since most of the dinner time flights I take out of MEL end up in CBR (and thus no real dinner) I can either have something to eat at MEL, or arrive home feeling pretty hungry.

As a side note, had the MEL QP been my first taste of lounge access I'd have probably not bothered with getting access.

I have brought noodles into the MEL QP to have a more substantial meal before an evening flight. As others have said the food in MEL QP can be pretty dire, and if it is any good it disappears very quickly as people hoover it up in a flash.

I wouldn’t see a problem with it, considering lounge food isn’t always that good and if you’re hungry and have access to a lounge why can’t you mix the two? I would expect if you brought in a burger or some mess from outside you make every effort to bin it yourself as it’s not the usual waste and I’m not sure there are many (any?) bins in the lounge. But plenty in the terminal.

Can't recall having either seen or done this, but as long as its consumed in a civilised manner and is not something that overwhelmingly stinks the lounge out (I guess this becomes subjective depending what sort of food smells you like) then I can't see an issue. I probably can't see myself doing it either, but who knows? I'm assuming there are no QF rules prohibiting it.

I would imagine there are rules regarding alcohol, but they’re set by the state/government?

I think it's fine too, you may have specific food requirements or like this example just want something substantial.

Makes wonder if you can order pizza delivery :)

I don't really mind ppl eating takeaway in the DOM lounges. As Ewing and others have mentioned, Sometimes it's going to be their main meal.

I have not done it, but I guess the only thing I would like was if they put their own rubbish/leftovers in the rubbish bins once they are done.

A good alternative to the "deconstructed pie" on offer at the ADL QP last week. One plate of mashed potato alongside another plate of what my mum would have called savoury mince.
