BYO in the QP, what next ?

Yes you are right, but what does that have to do with bringing fast food into the QP?

Well you can eat said fast food at the outlet it was bought from. The OP mentioned that this particular incident, they came in, ate quickly then left. I wonder what the actual point of coming into the QC was in the first place?

With regards to eating where you purchase, even the Syd Dom food hall looks as if it may be frequently out of seats, on the odd occasion that I travel domestically. Plus, the seats are a bit comfier, it's slightly quieter, you can pull out a laptop and a book and not worry about taking up room at the table for too long.

The smaller shops sometimes only have 4 or 5 seats or a counter too.

Do people realise that you don't *have* to go to the QC everytime you're at the airport?

What? Is this true? I thought it was mandatory!

I probably should become a bit more familiar with the airports I frequent, but I'm not a shopper or window shopper, and I very rarely touch fast food, so unless I have something specific to do/purchase, I'm afraid it is straight to the lounge for me. :)

The QP & J lounge offerings sometimes just won't cut the mustard. Often you need to eat a main meal at an odd time. Other times you're just sick of the lack of variety.

If someone wants to BYO something more substantial to the lounge then I don't have any problem with it. The food court in MEL isn't particularly comfortable (and the tables are rarely cleaned) so if someone wants to go and eat their burger somewhere more accommodating (inc. the QP or J lounge) then so be it.

Having said that I can't stand the smell of Hungry Jacks. I'd probably just discreetly move if the smell became too much.

Same as everyone else, a generally quieter place to relax before your flight, maybe check your emails through the free wifi and grab a free beverage at the bar. Just they decided that they wanted their own food on this occasion.

Same here, SWMBO can go shopping as much as she wants and she knows where she can find me when she is done

Whoa there, slow down, you mean to say there is an airport outside of the lounges?

Sometimes I get bored with the lounges (if it's more than an hour layover etc) so I'll go for a wonder and often end up eating in the food court or what not. Especially in the states where the lounges (even F lounges) are cough, and their food courts / airport shopping etc is epic

I have to admit, I do the same. There is only so long I can sit there by myself and read over nonews and facebook before I want to go for a walk. If nothing else, I'm probably about to spend anywhere between 1 to 14 hours sitting down (plus I might have just spent anywhere between 1 and 14 hours sitting down) and thus it's a good chance to stretch the legs before hoping onto another plane.

Besides, whilst I'm really not a fan of shopping, I don't actually mind looking through DF shops. I also usually take it as a chance to walk to other nearby terminals or to gates which I wouldn't normally fly from.

Seriously? Let's see. In the Qantas club I can pretty much leave my bag and go and get a free drink of tea or coffee, or hot chocolate. Alcohol if the bar is open. Then use the bath room facilities. Grab an apple. Check my email. And know when I get back to my comfortable seat, with a free magazine or newspaper, my bag will still be there. But you're right, I should have stayed in the fast food area and eaten the food while perched on a wooden stool while fending off the hordes and then using the bathroom whilst taking my bag with me in case people think I've either left a bomb or a bag for them to pinch.

Lets not get too carried away..

I'll head to the QC if I have lots of time on hand, or I need to fire off some emails/check the net, or if that cold beverage is desperately needed. But otherwise you can find me exploring the terminal, browsing the bookshop or avoiding the madness that the QC can sometimes become.

Good on them, nothing wrong with a bit of BYO especailly if the staff see it and report to the boss people are bringing their own food. Have taken a pizza onto a flight I knew didn't serve much of a meal and I was hungry.

Your only allowed to do that if you bring enough so everyone can have a slice...

YEs, there was a couple of comments form other passengers about what a good idea it was and I did reluctantly supply a slice to the passenger next to me!

I once had a pax next to me once bring on a HJ 'meal', Burger, Fries and Drink. I think that was taking it too far. (MEL-SYD QF sector).
Have also seen lots of people purchase "Krispy Kreme" Doughnuts and take them on board. (SYD- somewhere, as they sell it in SYD T3)

This is the norm for US doemstic travel..

I don't really have a problem with it - then again I see the QP/J lounge as a (slightly) less dirty/noisy/crowded food court.

Minus the food..or so this thread seems to allude..

That's true. Mind you I don't really consider the airport food courts as food courts either...more like somewhere I can sit at a table instead of at the gate juggling a few things!

I don't usually get lounge access. I honestly feel weird when I do go in...feel as though I'm not really travelling.

But +1 to those referring to the people who carry on HJs/Maccas on board the aircraft...big no no!!! The smell makes me want to buy some for a start
