BYO in the QP, what next ?

As QF do not sell food in the QP, I cannot see why bringing food into the QP is an issue (QF are saving money if you self cater). At some times of the day, the food in the QP is limited at best.

However, as high vis wearing scum (on a rare occasion), my standards are obviously pretty low and should be banned from the QP anyway.

I have brought food in to QP's before if what is in the lounge is not what I want.

If they complain about it my come back line would be serve some thing decent

Hmm, some interesting observations here, seems I am the odd one out. To all respondents then :
If a restaurant didn't have what you wanted is it OK to send out for a pizza (or whatever it is you crave)?
Is it acceptable to BYO food to another food establishment ?
Is it OK to eat Maccas at Subway's seats ?

Just asking ... of course the QP isn't a restaurant but is it a food establishment ?

The big difference is the QP does not SELL food.

IMHO the QP is a place to get away from the crowds in some parts of the airport and have a drink and also have a stretch and drink and also a something to eat if it suits you.

I mainly go in grab a drink and then get on my laptop.

I generally don't eat in the QP's.

If I don't like the food at a restaurant I would not go there.

IF QP's sold food they would go out of business in a week

In my hundreds of visits to a QP or J lounge sometimes the food offer has been gobbled up and/or deli cuts simply doesn't cut it, particularly if you are a weekly commuter!

The only lounge where I have never experienced this is the Flounge!

To each their own. I have seen them with food from Wok on Air and personal pizzas in the lounge. If they want to waste their money on purchasing food that is entirely their choice.

P.S When I see the HJ abbreviation my mind does not automatically race to Hungry Jacks. I wish people did not have the compulsion to abbreviate everything.

For all of these questions, the answer is it depends.

They do not advertise themselves as a food establishment, they advertise themselves as a waiting room.
BYOG would no doubt cause problems for them thanks to their liquor license, but since they do not sell food I can't see what the problem would be.
I guess the only proviso would be that the cleaning people do not have any extra work to do as a result of BYO food.

Of course the final argument is that the lounge dragon's have no doubt seen me bring food in in the past, given they are suppose to enforce entry rules, had one of the rules been "no outside food" I'd have been turned away pretty quick smart.

I don't really mind ppl eating takeaway in the DOM lounges. As Ewing and others have mentioned, Sometimes it's going to be their main meal.

I have not done it, but I guess the only thing I would like was if they put their own rubbish/leftovers in the rubbish bins once they are done.

Boss

Hold on, is this the CL or the QP/J Lounge? If it's the former why would people bring food into the CL - surely the offering would be good enough to not have to BYO... If it's the latter what are you doing in the pleb DOM lounges when you have a CL to go to?? :o

From what I understand, a similar service to the international F lounges is being introduced, but probably not complete yet.

That said, he wasn’t always CL :p

I was replying specifically to the OP. I mean J or QP. Just to clarify.

I have seen fast food in the CL and it also doesn't bother me.

If you BYO into the QP/FL I don't think QF (or the operating lounge) would give a care, after all they are saving money from you not eating their offering. [If legislation allowed, QF would even want you to BYO your own Veuve Cliquot .... think costs savings again]

However outside of the lounge, its unacceptable to BYO food into another food place where food is offered for sale as you are taking away business from them ie by not buying their items.

Sometimes I get bored with the lounges (if it's more than an hour layover etc) so I'll go for a wonder and often end up eating in the food court or what not. Especially in the states where the lounges (even F lounges) are cough, and their food courts / airport shopping etc is epic

Probably should have gone with Post script then...

It isn't a good look in the QP but honestly sometimes there is just nothing to eat in the club, it has either been scoffed up by others and not replaced or there was nothing there in the first place. If you are there mid morning, there is no breakfast available and if your flight is over a couple of hours, it might mean no lunch for you either, and then you get off the plane, get your luggage and get where you need to go and it could be closer to dinner with no food in between. Adelaide QP is basic. And there is a limit to how much of their soup you can eat in a lifetime. And as I don't like pasta then the planes food isn't going to work, assuming it gets served on the flight.

Do people realise that you don't *have* to go to the QC everytime you're at the airport?

I have done this a couple of times. Once in Melbourne I had dim sum by myself morning of my afternoon flight. Everything comes in threes and I wanted to try a few things so had them pack up the leftovers for lunch/afternoon snack, as I was going to be in the QP for ~4 hours.
