Not quite - only travel on Qantas flight numbers in X, N, Q, E, U, Z, P class [-]can[/-] generally does not earn earn AAdvantage Miles; travel in all other classes may.

Out of interest, how do you see from the QF website what fare code you are booking into?

Hi All

Did some more research over the week end and the deeper I look into other FF programs the more I see how much of a rip off QFF is.

I am wanting to fly SYD to LAX, withh AA that will cost 62500points and $103 taxes. With QFF it is 96000 points and $485 taxes for exactly the same flight!!!!

Remember that you must compare the earn rates and not just the burn rates. ie how easy is it to earn AA points versus earning Qantas points?

In my case I earn with AA faster. All miles are BIS and I get the 100% bonus on CX with AA that you miss out on with QF.

I only by I or D class fares (or higher).

Not as simple as that.
Another factor is award availability, and award seats on QF flights are available about one month before those same seats booked through Aadvantage... and that one month can mean the difference between a seat being available... and GONE!

Two examples:

1. Booked Mrs Paddy and Junior Paddy SYD-LAX and LAX-SYD in Dec and Jan this year/next. If I hadn't used my QF points to book at 96,000 points +++ they just wouldn't have been there a month later when I would like to have got them via AAdvantage @ 62,500 points +. I consoled myself with the knowledge that as JASA's they were earning SCs and points where the QF Classic Award doesn't.

2. Just booked a trip to Europe next year for Mrs Paddy. I could get reasonable availability via Aadvantage on CX going to LHR at the end of May, but had to go with QF points on CX coming back at the end of June... just couldn't risk no J availability on Aadvantage coming back end June (Mrs Paddy doesn't like whY anymore )

Which sort of raises a question in my mind... when in the year do people find the best J/F Aadvantage availability to / from Oz to US / Europe?
