Canberra - Hotel Recommendations

Kingston could be our bolthole for Sunday dinner with many restaurants closed on Sunday evening.

Anyone up for a meal in Barton tonight? Yes I know it is short notice and I apologise for that but I did not know how today would pan out until about now. It is 5.42 now. I am thinking Ostani...

Sorry I didn't bump into any of you tonight at Ostani. Pizza was good and atmosphere was terrific. Nice and warm outside with the gas heaters and in-front of the faux log fire.
FWIW, we tried the RUC which wasn't bad. Mrs prozacs curry was very ordinary however with about 5 small tiny pieces of lamb and rice that was still moulded into the shape of the container it was heated up in (and outside was crusty). My steak was ok but the chips were good.

Kingston pub was good. We ate in the Steakhouse restaurant. It was only when we were leaving that I realised there was another full service room adjacent. Steakhouse was good and staff enthusiastic. Recommended.

Netherlands Ambassadors residence was great for stand up food and freely flowing beverage. I hope I am invited back.;)

We walked around a bit. Checked out Parliament House, Portrait Gallery (really loved the bust of Jack Brabham), and the War Memorial. The Last Post ceremony is worth being there for at 1645.

Burbury Hotel is good but you can hear the other room doors closing with a bang which was disturbing. The door closers need adjusting. Not the sort of thing that should be overlooked.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.:)

Sorry I missed you prozac, I was only a short stroll away.

I didn't see the post - we live right at the Realm. Sorry we missed you but glad you enjoyed your time here.

Thank you everyone. Back in the rat-race they call Sydney now, but if I get an invite back to next year's ceremony I will give you more notice and we could meet up. Have to say I did not mind Canberra.

I'd even move down there if someone offered me work. ;)

As per the other thread, we also left Canberra with a very positive vibe. The Canberra residents that we spoke to did their best but the winter still spooks me

I didn't mind the cold this morning in Canberra. Very crisp, not damp. Born and raised mostly here but I am a bit over the Sydney humidity.

I have to say I didn't mind Sydney today. Although, i didn't leave the airport and the lounges were nice ;) say, I prob only missed you in the terminal by a dash-8 or two.

If you did it was only that you didn't look out your window as your aircraft was passing over the General Holes Drive road tunnel. I drove to Canberra OzEire. ;)

Thank you all for your contributions to this thread. Although now 10 months old, has given me all the information I need for our stay in Canberra this Friday night (Good Friday - 25th March 2016)
I had already booked Crowne Plaza when Qantas was doing a double points promotion, but was looking for somewhere for dinner that night. Ostani at The Realm it is.

Canberra is severely underrated. I love it.
heading there for the Richmond vs GWS game in a few weeks.
Am staying at the Novotel. Is it OK?

I've enjoyed my stays at the Novotel. Decent rooms and centrally located.
From memory the hotel has 6 floors, with rooms on floors 5 to 6 being smaller than rooms on floor 4. Top floor rooms are still adequate however.
Might be worth checking with the hotel if room size worries you.

Novotel is bang in the city and if you don't have a car, close to the main bus interchange. It is easy to find somewhere to eat round there (across Northbourne Ave in the main but a short walk). I like Manuka Oval. On game day there will be road closures in some areas around it. Not sure if you are intending to drive or take public transport to the match. Hope the weather is better than it is today for you :)
