We were sent our new flights to Adelaide last night. Mine at 8.15 on Sunday morning and bAlt's after 12 (revenue and rewards bookings). It would give bAlt 40 minutes in ADL before we were due to come back on our still scheduled Sunday afternoon flight. At least I would have got to one of the four Fringe shows we'd booked ;)

bAlt cancelled his booking last night but mine was booked with my Amex $450 credit.

I've just logged in and via chat cancelling was no issue. The rep could see that I had used the credit last November but assured me that the credit would not be reversed. I'll of course get a credit back from Qantas on the card. That $450 will more than cover the cost of the Fringe tickets we can't get refunds on. I won't bother with an insurance claim.

It's super weird Ron. My sister down at Banora Point is getting hammered and here we are with our wall of glass that looks down onto the river wide open.
Which airline has a Chat function? I can't find one with Virgin, but need to cancel flights they've changed me to, and I don't want a travel credit. Refund to my credit card results in an error message.

Wondering what the brain trust thinks/knows about those pax who can’t get to the airport to make the flights?

I am assuming the BNE and OOL airports and also the airlines pretty much gave less than 24 hours notice/confirmation (based on the news announcements yesterday) for ‘some’ flights to go ahead this morning, and it’s still not all that easy or safe for road travel esp Gold Coast and Tweed areas so what is out there (compensation or refund or rebook) for those who are no shows?

Not personally involved but just curious and looking for information and happy to be corrected on my wrong assumptions about pax notifications about their pending flights

Good point - especially as at 1pm today all
Bus services suspended again and trains still not running.

The opposite could also be the case though. I’ll bet there’s plenty of interstate travellers stuck in BNE and the goldy that are at/near the airport and happy to jump on the first available flight home. Any seat, any airline.

That would help fill the planes.

Except there is a warning out that if you don't have a previously confirmed booking on a flight today do not travel to the airport.

Wow. Just caught up with proper news after being away over the weekend. Northern NSW still looking at rising floodwaters. Not that surprising, really - torrential rain over a few days will only evidence itself after the drainage comes together. Still some time to run on this one :(

On the other side, on the ABC news I saw a hulking high-axel & re-inforced ambulance capable to tackle I think they said 1.3m floodwaters. 🚚

EDIT: And now Hervey Bay just starting!

Yea, it’s the tropics or sub tropics if you want to be pedantic. Not unexpected. Some over reaction for some but very dense population in the se corner with 400k with no electricity. Good that they were proactive IMHO.

Was mentioned elsewhere that many international flights from BNE are going via Melbourne and Sydney due to no catering.
Looks like Qatar is going via Melbourne.
