My ANZ Visa gives points for transfers to my TAB betting account. (Once I get though the "Verified by Visa" rigamarole ...)

This is very interesting .... my understanding is that you can credit your account and then withdraw the money (without even bothering to place a bet on a dead cert). So is there anything stopping you just doing that all the time - e.g deposit a couple of hundred bucks a week and then just leave it sitting there for a while before withdrawing again?

My altittude card with westpac is used almost weekly for tatts.com and never as a cash advance and always get points.

You get 1:1 for altitude? I may look and see if you get a sign on bonus. My woolies MC gets surcharged :(

Most sites have a turnover requirement that you need to bet all the funds at least once before withdrawing

But every so often a certainty loses and you lose a whole lot. There's a thread on it, one example was betting on Howard before the election which was paying around 1 a few months before

Betting sites, almost unbackable certainties + points...

On recent checking, about 30 seconds ago, I can not find any points posted from Tatts. This is interesting, IIRC I am sure I had seen points post previously...Now to check that I am not being hit with a cash advance. Is it treated as cash or purchase? I will advise when I figure it out. Dont do any cash advamces on the card, so it should be easy to work out.

Edited: double checked and found out I was telling porky pies

Has anyone tried depositing into gambling accounts via paypal? I'm curious whether anyone has tried this and whether it counted as a cash advance and/or earned points.

I use ANZ QF and get 0.5 points per dollar. I'd love to find a card that gave 1 point per dollar......anyone have a better card?

HSBC card gave me points when I opened up a Ladbrokes account to take advantage of one of their special offers around Melb Cup time last year. Didn't use Paypal, just bpayed straight into their account. Worked out well as I actually made a profit over a couple of months but haven't even looked at the account this year so don't know if it still works

and it gave me 1 point per dollar

Great! Did you get surcharged as a cash advance with immediate interest or did your interest free period apply?

Normal BPAY, treated as a purchase with normal interest free period

Which HSBC card was this? Seems strange because I had one last year, the HSBC QF Platinum and the T&C's specifically excluded BPAY transactions from points earning. That's the reason I cancelled it! Although the WOWEDR CC which is also issued by HSBC does earn points on BPAY...

It was the QF Platinum and I just went and confirmed both through my statement and then the QFF site that the points did flow through. I did go through the T&C's a while ago and didn't notice that BPAY was excluded though from memory there is a cap at 300K of points per year

Tried Altitude Black via paypal to SportingBet.

I put the card into the black before paying to avoid the fees being too evil if they treated it as a cash advance.

It was counted as a cash advance. No points and a $2.50 fee.

Maybe they've changed the terms and conditions since? Have you completed a BPAY transaction recently that awarded points?

Have a look here: https://www.hsbc.com.au/1/2/personal/credit-cards/platinum-qantas

1 Eligible purchases exclude interest free promotions, balance transfers, business expenses, cash advances, fees or charges, any disputed transactions, BPAY® and any government fee or charge. Points will ordinarily be credited within 2 months of making an eligible purchase.
