Cards that pay points on 'gambling transactions'

Maybe they've changed the terms and conditions since? Have you completed a BPAY transaction recently that awarded points?

Have a look here: https://www.hsbc.com.au/1/2/personal/credit-cards/platinum-qantas

1 Eligible purchases exclude interest free promotions, balance transfers, business expenses, cash advances, fees or charges, any disputed transactions, BPAY® and any government fee or charge. Points will ordinarily be credited within 2 months of making an eligible purchase.
Can't check, I'm at work and they frown on anyone accessing gambling sites.

I might have done the BPAY transaction on the Ladbroke site itself, BPAY points are normally credited when you complete transactions from the target site

Well I just got my ANZ visa statement and they have stopped giving me points for gambling transactions :(

Yep just checked my ANZ points online and looks like they have stopped paying points on gambling transactions.

My card is on a direct debit for the punt club i'm in.

I don't believe EDRCC MasterCard has ever given points for BPay transactions.

Note you may still earn points by using a vendor's payment facility - e.g. Pay Optus using their Online Payment facility, rather than using BPay from your financial institution.

Ive never used Bpay, I was getting 0.5 points just depositing straight in to the bookies, I might try the Bpay option, I'll let you know if it works

I havent kicked up a stink as they havent cash advanced me as yet and I'll have to forgoe the points, but if cash advance me I wont use the card at all

Speaking of betting on sure-things.

Fremantle 2nd were playing StKilda 18th and last who had not wn for 11 weeks.

Un-losable game for Freo with odds of about 1.03.

Freo went down by 58 points!

Would have been ouch if that was anyone's intended FF play....

My idea of a sure thing would be more along the lines of betting on Freo to win with one bookie and betting on them to lose at another.

Just tried depositing to sportsbet with bpay, who accept cc on bpay. Will see if I get the points or not.

I just got an email from sportsbet asking me to send a bank statement showing account number, bsb, and the transaction showing the deposit. Do they not know that they take credit card via bpay? What a stupid policy - statements come out every month at best, and aren't available after every single transaction! I guess we'll have to see whether they accept an online banking screenshot or not.

I actually do it pretty frequently to bag cash offered in promotions from the bookies. It would just be cream on top if I earned points while doing it.

I have looked into that PP, but I would worry about hustling online gambling sites. I wouldn't want them having any of my details or to find myself on their "naughty list".

Newsagent: lotto, powerball etc... Classed as normal purchase ;)

Not from my experience. I've been charged a cash advance fee whenever I've purchased lottery tickets by credit card.

Must only be a victorian thing then.

Everytime I put on lotto, it's in store (actual newsagent, not shopping centre lotto only shop), occasionally even including a newspaper or magazine.

Far from getting on the naughty list, they seem to class me as a good customer. Probably because I usually take long odds so I rarely actually win at the bookie. This results in phone calls before big events like melbourne cup and state of origin offering me deposit bonuses.

They say "We can offer you a $300 matched deposit bonus if you deposit before the melbourne cup."

I hear "Would you like $200 for 5 minutes work?"

=)

So game the system to trigger the bonus offer, then bet on a high probability event to get the cash back. Amusing scheme!

The probability of the event only affects the return. Because I'm covering all possible outcomes there is literally no way of losing. Covering every outcome is why I only get 60-80% back on the deposit bonus.
