Does anyone have a definitive answer on needles & wool? My daughter is travelling on an international QF flight soon and there is conflicting information on the Qantas site vs the government’s travelSECURE site.
I have taken needles, wool, interchangeable needles, and so on through security at BNE, ADL, MEL, SYD (dom & int), LAX, MSP, PDX, ORD, DFW, DCA, CDG, MCO, YUL, HEL, BKK, NRT, HND, HKG in the past 5-7 years (those are just the airports I can remember).
I usually travel with interchangeable bamboo tips, but I have some metal tips in my needle tip case.
The only comment I can recall has been at BNE dom security where the person said "you have a lot of pens in that bag".
I told him they were knitting needle tips, and he didn't say anything more.
Scissors are more of a concern - so I have a yarn cutter that's somewhat like a brooch/pendant (Birch brand IIRC, from Spotlight or Lincraft - something like this -
CLOVER YARN CUTTER PENDANT ANTIQUE SILVER | Birch Creative).
A frequent alternative by travelling crafters is a dental floss case. The cutter on that will often work.
I do not wear the cutter as a pendant, but keep in my notions bag, which is a former QF J amenity kit repurposed.
