Cathay business class lounge?

Hi - we are traveling first time business class on Cathay to HK and then Shanghai and then back to HK for big anniversary....
We will arrive in HK at 5.30am for 2 hours stop before going onto Shanghai - q
Question?
Do I need to book for a shower in advance or is it just first come first served? I see there are less showers in the "wing" as they are doing refurbishments....
Also which is best lounge to use in HK when we arrive - there seems to be 3..
Any other suggestions to get best out of trip in business class greatly appreciated - thanks in advance...!

The refurbishment of The Wing (which you mentioned) is complete and there are the luxurious cabanas there (about 6?) - I don't now if there are ordinary showers as well there as I've never asked for them. No reservations as far as I'm aware; I've never had to wait. The Wing is F class and OW Emerald access, so depending on your status may not come under your business class lounge criteria.

The Wing is the best as far as I'm concerned. I haven't been in the other CX lounges for a while. But of course its at the end of the Terminal, best accessed from landside. If you are arriving and departing from one of the more distant gates, then one of the other lounges may be perfectly adequate and more convenient.

Depends what gate you arrive and depart from. The Wing is near Gate 2, The Pier Gate 65, The Bridge Gate (low 40s) and the Cabin Gate 23.

See here for a map of the gates. It is quite a hike from the furthest gates to immigration.

Edit to add: I don't know if there is a particular gate(s) that your flights would typically arrive/depart from but I did track a flight I'm planning to catch out of HKG and there was no pattern whatsoever...it was all over the place.

I can also attest that I've never had to wait for a shower in the Wing or in the Pier. As others have said, it will depend on which gate you arrive at as to which lounge is closest, but if you've just got off a long flight, a bit of a walk to explore a few of the lounges can be a nice program. I seem to remember getting the arrival gate pop up on the IFE screen shortly before landing in HK, so you could note down the gate locations of each lounge and then you know where to head for as soon as you get in.

As a passenger in business class, you are entitled to use the business class lounges of the airline you are actually flying, including those operated by a third party to that airline. As a business class passenger on CX, you will be able to use any business class lounge operated by CX or by a third party on behalf of CX. Your frequent flyer tier status does not affect this entitlement.

The entitlement to use any *O lounge when flying on any *O airline is a right given to *O tier status. You can be flying in economy and still access any *O business lounge if you are *O Sapphire - your travelling class does not affect this entitlement.

With only 2 hours, I would try to pick the CX lounge closest to your departing gate, which would have been assigned by then (though subject to change). Note that the Pier doesn't open until 6am.

OneWorld has always allowed access to any OneWorld J lounge for passengers travelling in Business Class on any members marketed and operated flight. Obviously you wont have issues getting into a third party airline lounge if its contracted to offer services to the airline you are flying J with but thats irrelevant in the context of the OP as strangely CX dont have third party lounges in their home port.

oneworld lounge access for First Class or Business Class customers

Indulge yourself before departure in a wider range of airport lounges when you fly First Class or Business Class with anyoneworld member airline.

• Customers flying First or Business Class have access to the equivalent class of lounge regardless of their frequent flyer status. First Class passengers may use a Business Class or frequent flyer lounge if a First Class lounge is not available.
• First Class passengers may invite one guest to join them in the lounge. The guest must also be travelling on a flight operated and marketed by a oneworld airline.
• Connecting between oneworld marketed and operated flights:

  • You must be prepared to show your boarding pass or itinerary showing travel in First or Business class on the international long haul flight, in order to access the lounge before your international short haul or domestic flight.

On the website yes, in reality no, I have not heard of any issues since OneWorld started where a members J passenger has not been able to visit another J lounge.

I think this discussion about Lounges has drifted a bit and potentially confusing. The issue is if the OP is flying J, that, in itself, will not provide access to an F lounge.
So where people have made reference to 'Any Lounge', it would be better said 'any J lounge'.

Unless the OP or some one with them, or the incoming (in some cases) or outgoing flight is in F they will not have access to a J lounge. I know the Wing is sort of split into an F and J area (is the adjacent J area still called 'The Wing'?). The reference to the spiffy showers is to the F section - not the J section.
